Tea Time!
It’s “Tea Time” today on the Southern Bride Blog! January is National Hot Tea Month and we think that it’s also a great idea to serve an assortment of hot tea during these cold months at your shower, rehearsal dinner or wedding! A tea themed shower is an oh so cute, sophisticated idea! Have lovely tea cups and saucers or you can even mix and match them for fun! Hit up some local antique shops and search for some pretty antique tea cups that you can use, then keep for years to come! And we must not forget tasty tea time treats! Serve tea cookies, tea sandwiches, scones, mini pies, and any other baked goods that you may love.
For a rehearsal dinner or wedding, have a Tea Station! If you have a Winter or Fall wedding, this is a great way to keep your guests warm and cozy. A selection of teas at a Tea Station can also act as your favors! If you decide to serve tea at your event, have an assortment of flavors for your guests to choose from along with the must haves of cream and sugar! You can also have your tea treats at the Tea Station or on each table. Place a tray at each table with an assortment of cookies or scones. To add an extra special touch, take 3-5 cookies, stack them, then tie them with ribbon. This will make for an elegant presentation and also decorate your table! This is PERFECT for all of you DIY, savvy brides out there!
Don’t forget that your local rental companies have cups and saucers in various patterns, as well as silver tea sets! If you are thinking of having a tea themed event but you don’t have enough cups and saucers or a tea set, and you do not want to purchase them, rent them! Classic Party Rentals in Memphis offer a number of china patterns which include cups and saucers! We particulary loved the pattern shown below from Classic Party Rentals, which we used for our Majestic Bride shoot. Visit Classic Party Rentals and take a look in their showroom for all you need for the perfect tea party!
Enjoy inspiration below from our Majestic shoot shot by PF Conrey Fine Photography. After the Royal Wedding, we were eager to do a Majestic/Royal/Kate Middleton inspired shoot - which you can see more of in the current issue of Southern Bride Magazine! The florals from this shoot were done by Petals Studios!
You don’t have to be a royal to have your afternoon tea
So take a break from your busy day
And enjoy a cup of tea, okay?
Seaside & A Vintage Bride
During our Fashion shoot last year in Seaside, Florida Webz Media captured some fun and flirty photos of a vintage bride in Seaside’s Motorcourt Cottage – the perfect setting for a vintage bridal shoot! The bride was dressed from head to toe in a vintage birdcage veil, vintage style short gown and vintage style footwear!
It was the Motorcourt Cottage in Seaside that made this vintage shoot come to life! If you want a vintage motel experience, head to Seaside and stay at the Motorcourt. Park your car, rent a bike and explore the beauty of Seaside!
If you are looking for a destination wedding, Seaside is the place! There are a number of breathtaking areas in Seaside for a lavish over the top wedding, or an intimate, smaller scale wedding. And for portraits, the locations are endless. From traditional destination beach photos, to vintage bridal shots like these, there is something for every bride in Seaside!

Chocolates fit for a “City” Bride
Chocistry was a part of our “City Bride” photoshoot (which you can see in the current Winter issue of Southern Bride) and they created a specialty chocolate just for the shoot!
The chocolate created is called “Zola” which is a hand painted fine dark chocolate shell with an apricot gorgonzola dolce white chocolate ganache. Doesn’t that just make your mouth water? Let Chocistry create something extra special for your next party, event, special occasion or wedding! It will not only be a piece of art, but an unforgettable, decadent treat!

2012 Wedding Gown Trend: Open Back
Happy New Year! It’s 2012 and we are so excited for what this year has in store and all the fabulous inspiration we look to bring all of our Southern Brides!
Our first trend topic this year has to do with wedding gowns. One popular trend we expect to see in 2012 when it comes to wedding gowns are gowns with an open back! While we have been seeing some open back wedding dresses over the years, some of the new designs will make this romantic look even more desirable for brides!
An open back dress can be classic and sexy at the same time. The front can have your classic look, while the open back will make such a statement as you walk down the aisle and later at your reception during your first dance! This style of dress also makes for some of the most stunning bridal portraits!
An open back dress is perfect year around, but we think they are especially beautiful for summer and beach weddings! But designers are making open back dresses for 2012 in a variety of styles and for all seasons!

Dreamy Dangles

For Day 11, they posted some stunning Antiqued Sterling Silver Earrings. These dreamy dangles would be gorgeous for a bride! Wear them on your big day and after for years to come!

She will be excited to start the process and work with Kristin to create her custom wedding dress painting after the holidays!
A bride spends her whole life thinking about her wedding dress. As a little girl you are dreaming of the dress you will wear on your wedding day. It’s a magical thought and even more magical when the day comes that you find THE dress. After the wedding is over, you pack your dress away and you have your photos, but how would you like to really make your wedding dress a piece of art to enjoy for the rest of your life?
Kristin Wolfson, an amazing artist out of New Orleans, has created a modern way to cherish your wedding dress forever. A friend immediately thought of Wolfson when she envisioned presenting her daughter-in-law with a unique piece of artwork on her wedding day.
Wolfson coupled her creativity with her fashion design skills to create a life sized wedding dress painting . . . and you can have one too!
A wedding dress is a huge investment that is worn for one glorious day and then hibernates in your closet for eternity. Why not turn it into a statement piece for your home? It is the perfect luxury bridal gift that will make any bride feel like a celebrity!

Savvy Holiday Party Tips
Whether planning a cocktail party, engagement party or just a fun holiday gathering – there are a few tips that are great to keep in mind to make any holiday party a success!
1. Lighting ~ Lighting sets the mood! Use dim lighting and lots of candles! Candles are an inexpensive way to add ambiance and a classy touch! Use them everywhere!!
2. Music ~ This is a must, especially over the holidays! Make a fun, festive play list days before with hours of songs so it will play throughout the evening. Or have live music! Most of us know someone who plays an instrument – especially guitar. Have a friend come play some tunes! It will not only be the music you want, but also entertainment for your guests!
3. Candlesticks ~ Most of us have candlesticks tucked away - so why not put them to use! Candlesticks can transform a mantel or table if you use several. They can be an array of different styles and sizes and mixing glass, crystal, silver and gold works beautifully! You can use candles or place a single ornament on top of each candlestick – which will add a festive touch! It will also cost you nothing if you use candlesticks and ornaments you already own!
4. Flowers ~ Flowers along with candles give that special party touch! And to stay savvy and budget conscious – purchase only one or 2 bunches of flowers and make many arrangements by using small vases and only 1-2 stems. This will make your flowers go further and give you more arrangements to use throughout your home. In the kitchen, living room, on your night stand, and even in your bathroom! You can never have too many flowers!
5. Ornaments ~ We all have boxes of ornaments and if they are already all being used on your tree – they are generally inexpensive to purchase! Use clear bowls, vases, and even trays full of ornaments throughout your home! This will be festive for your kitchen (where people tend to gather) dining tables, coffee tables, bookshelves, and mantels! You don’t even have to place them in a bowl or vase – place a few here and there – anywhere! Stick with the traditional reds and greens or mix in some silver, gold and clear ornaments! There are ornaments out there in just about any and every color – so the options are endless!
6. Wrap it up! ~ Need a couple more decorations throughout your home? Buy a roll of wrapping paper with a great pattern and some nice ribbon that goes with the holiday decor in your home and wrap a few beautiful boxes. You can stack them together for a festive presentation. They can be placed by the front door, by the fireplace, in the middle of the kitchen table, on an accent chair, bench, bookshelf – anywhere your heart desires!
7.A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That ~ Have an assortment of small finger foods or tapas for your guests. This will make it easier on you when preparing the food and will give your guests more things to try and nibble on!
8. Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree! ~ The great thing about throwing a party over the holidays is that your home is already decorated! The trees, wreaths, lights, garland – it’s already there, decorating your home and adding holliday cheer!
9. E-vites ~ Of course sending out festive invitations is usually our first choice – but there is more cost involved as far as getting the actual invitations and then there’s postage! E-vites are a great alternative. There are so many websites out there that offer customizable invitations that you can send out in a flash to family and friends!
10. Cheers! ~ For drinks, serve a signature cocktail and/or beer and wine only. Your home is not a bar, so you don’t have to spend a ton of money on liquor. List on your invitation/e-vite what will be served (beer & wine) and tell guests if they prefer something else, BYOB! Most people are fine with a beer and wine only selection. And for wine, having a few whites and a few reds is usually the best way to go!
11. Make it sweet! ~ Who doesn’t love sweets over the holidays? Instead of having a party with the usual appetizers, make it a dessert party! Have an assortment of desserts and candy for guests to satisfy their sweet tooth! This can be done easily and on a budget. Or to make it even easier – have each guest bring a dessert or tasty treat! You could even make it in to a contest and have everyone vote on the best dessert! You can serve coffee and a few flavored syrups and creams too! Yummy!!
12. Be Merry with Branches! ~ A fabulous way to decorate for a party can be found right in your backyard! You can make an eye catching display and centerpiece by spray painting a large branch, placing it in a large vase or pot and hanging ornaments, Christmas cards, or photos from the branches! This is a great idea for an engagement party and hanging photos of the couple!

Miranda Lambert’s custom brooch bouquet by The Ritzy Rose
Miranda Lambert married fellow Country Music star Blake Shelton on a 125-acre ranch outside of San Antonio, Texas on May 14, 2011. She stuck to her Southern roots when it came to the planning and details of her wedding. The wedding itself took place in a romantic, lantern lit barn, as she wore her mother’s wedding dress and carried an amazing custom brooch boquete by The Ritzy Rose.
The Ritzy Rose is a labor of love for husband and wife team Jen & Jason Diehl. The name is a nod to Jen’s maiden name (Rose), and conjures up images of flappers and their deco lives nearly a hundred years ago. The company was born after the Diehls’ enchanting, whimsical wedding in 2010. After successfully planning their extravagant nuptials without the help of a planner, and using very few vendors, they set out to offer affordable custom designs and vintage goods to others.
Jen & Jason began with an etsy shop called The Ritzy Rose in the summer of 2010. Jen’s custom vintage brooch bouquets took off right away, and she began accepting commission orders through 2012. Brides also loved her pennant flags that say things like “Here Comes The Bride” or “Time To Cut The Cake”. Jen also stocked her online shop with a hand-picked assortment of vintage bridesmaids dresses, jewelry and other vintage accessories. Jen is incredibly inspired by the 1920s-1930s, and the 1950s- early 1960s. She focuses on items from these years.

After coordinating many weddings where windy conditions caused her bride’s veils to blow every which way, disrupting the ceremony & photos, Jill Watson decided that there was a need to find a way to keep those veils down and under control.
So, she created these beautiful pieces of magnetic jewelry that can be easily attached to a brides veil…“so when the wind blows…your veil won’t.”
These beautiful veil weights are made of genuine mother of pearl and Swarovski crystals and contain two small hidden magnets.
The veil weights are not permanent; they’re very easy to put on and take off and allow your veil to have movement while keeping it from blowing out of control!

Veil Weights jewelry are something every bride should have on her wedding day if her wedding is at the beach, on a cliff by the ocean, on an island, a yacht, in the desert, in wine country or anywhere the wind may be blowing.

Wedding planners should have them for their bride’s emergency kits. Photographers, videographers, bridal salons, seamstresses and make-up artists would benefit from carrying Save the Veil.
Save the Veil is a great product for the bride who has always wanted a beautiful veil, but thought she could not have one because of windy conditions blowing the veil out of control on her wedding day. The problem is now solved!
When the wedding day is over, brides can use Save the Veil as magnets to hang up their beautiful wedding photos. They become a keepsake of your fabulous wedding day!

Why do we celebrate Labor Day you ask? Well, for most people, Labor Day means 2 things: a day off from work and the end of summer. Labor Day is a day set aside to pay tribute to working men and women. It has been celebrated as a national holiday since 1894.

Keeping Kids Occupied at Weddings
When planning a wedding there is one adorable little detail that is often overlooked: the kids! These days weddings are a family affair and many times parents bring their children along rather than getting a sitter. This is true when it comes to family weddings because parents want other family members to see their children and it’s also true when it comes to out of town weddings where parents have no choice but the bring their kids along. While they are cute and cuddly at times, they can get quite board during a reception full of adult fun! That’s why it’s a great idea to think of some great ways to keep kids busy and having fun at your wedding reception.
There are more ideas than one may think when keeping kids entertained at a wedding, and it doesn’t have to cost much either!
Here are some of our favorites!
- If it is an outdoor wedding have outdoor activities for kids like blowing bubbles. This can keep them entertained for a while!
- A staple when it comes to keeping kids busy is coloring! Have a special table set up with colored pencils, crayons, coloring books, and endless amounts of paper!
- Another fun idea at the coloring table . . . balloons! Have some balloons tied to the kids table to keep them secure so they will not fly away. Then let them pull a balloon down to the table and decorate them with markers.
- Puzzles! Choose a fun puzzle and have the pieces layed out on a table for some of the kids to work on. This is better for those older kids who enjoy something more challenging than coloring!
- Games! We all have some of our favorite board games from when we were kids in the attic, right? Have a game table set up with fun games or cards like UNO. Again, this is better for the older kiddos!
- Getting married around the holidays? Have a cookie decorating station with trays of sugar cookies, icing and candy and let them decorate away. Then have little favor bags or boxes so they can take their cookie creations home!
- Chalk it up! Have buckets of chalk and even small chalk boards out for the kids. If it is an outdoor wedding at a venue that wouldn’t mind a little chalk on the walkway, let the kids draw on it. Tell them to decorate the walk way for the bride and groom when they depart. This will make them feel like they have an important project to complete! Or if all else fails, a good ‘ol game of hopscotch is always fun!
- Lollipop, lollipop, oh lollipop! Have an array of large lollipops for the children to enjoy as they do their activities! You will not have to worry about it being small candy they could choke on and it wont be as messy as an ice cream cone!
If you have any fun ideas on how to keep children occupied at weddings, share them with us on the Southern Bride Facebook page!

How NOT To Be A Bridesmaidzilla {Guest Bloggers: Beth & Raquel}
Today our friends Beth and Raquel from Mahaffey Tent and Party Rentals are on the SB Blog. They are here to tell us “ How NOT To Be A Bridesmaidzilla!” Ladies – take notes!
Sometimes it’s hard to be a bridesmaid. It can be expensive, time consuming and is often a thankless job. However, being asked to take part in a friend or family members wedding is an honor and therefore should be approached as such.
Here are a rules to ensure being the best bridesmaid a lady can be:
1. Don’t Give Your Opinion…Unless Asked
This rule can be applied to several things but one in particular is the bridesmaids attire (dress, shoes, jewelry) for the big day. The last thing a bride wants or needs is for a renegade attendant to debate the merrits of wearing wedges vs heels. Smile and keep your opinions to yourself.
2. Know the Golden Rule
Think about how your friend, now the bride, treated you on your big day (or will treat you when your day arrives) and try and hold yourself to the same standard. Chances are that if she was a terrible bridesmaid, you wouldn’t still be close enough to be in her wedding. If your big day is still to come, think of how you would want your friend to act as your bridesmaid and try to meet those expectations.
3. Keep the Stress Off the Bride
As a bridesmaid, you can be asked to do any number of things and there are definitely the brides who expect their wedding to become your full time job. However, assuming your friend and bride is being realistic and her requests are simple (putting invitations in envelopes, attending a dress fitting or a cake tasting) and manageable then please, help a bride out. The bride generally has more on her plate than anyone and assisting in a few small tasks is helpful in keeping the bride stress free which makes for a happier wedding party. The groom, your fellow bridesmaids and every vendor in the state thank you in advance.
4. Know Your Budget
When your friend or family member asks you to be in her wedding, it’s important to know upfront what demands will be made on your bank account. It’s perfectly acceptable to ask the bride what her anticipated price range will be on the dress, shoes, jewelry, hair and make-up. However, assuming that this isn’t your role, you may also want to ask the maid or matron of honor to which pre-wedding festivities you will be expected to contribute. If it seems that you won’t be able to afford the price of taking part in the wedding, be upfront and honest with the bride as early as possible.
And last but not least….
5. It’s Not About You
Several of the aforementioned rules hinted at this but here it is: it’s really not about you. To clarify, that doesn’t mean during the happy couples 14 month long engagement that your life, work and relationships outside of the bride and her wedding cease to exist. It does mean that whether or not you hate teal strapless gowns and marathon karaoke bachelorette parties becomes irrelevant. Most importantly, the week leading up to the wedding and the day of are really not about you. Give the bride her day and do your best to keep her focus on the happiest day of her life.
Post Wedding Brunch {Tips & Ideas}
A post wedding brunch has become quite common these days. It’s a perfect way to join your family and friends and reminisce on the festivities and joy from the day/night before. Usually a post wedding brunch includes the wedding party, family, and of course out of town guests. It’s more of an intimate affair and usually the bride and groom want to keep it small. This will give the new couple time to visit with their family and friends since it may have been hard to find time the day before and vica verca – your family and friends will have more time to visit and catch up as well!
When thinking of planning a Post Wedding Brunch there are often a few questions the bride and groom may have:
{1} Who Pays for the Brunch? Typically there are no formal rules as to who pays for the brunch. This is something you need to discuss as a couple, along with parents on both sides. There are several options when it comes to who pays. Sometimes if their pockets allow, the bride and groom pay for it. It’s way for them to say thank you to everyone for being involved and traveling to be a part of their big day! If that is not an option, then usually the bride or groom’s parents pays – or a family member or friend may host the brunch. If a post brunch is something you really want to do, but the budget just wont allow – simply invite everyone to a “no host” brunch at a local restaurant or café. Everyone will pay for their own, but it will still be a great, final get together with all of those who were a part of your special day!

{2} Location, Location, Location There are many options when choosing a post brunch location. One important thing to keep in mind is keeping it close. You do not want to choose a location that is far or hard to get to and make it hard on those who are not familiar with the area. If you have several out of town guests booked at the same hotel, check and see if the hotel has a brunch and choose to have it there and make it convenient for the out of towners. Another option is the venue where you held your reception. Depending on the venue, they may have a smaller room that can be set up for a brunch. As mentioned before, a local restaurant/café - or having a friend or family member host a brunch are also options!
{3) Choosing a Time What is a good time for a post wedding brunch? Since the night before was probably a late one and perhaps even went into the wee hours of the morning, choosing a time too early may not be the best idea – but that’s why it’s called a brunch, so that it’s a little later. The time of the brunch however, does in fact determine the type of food that can be served. A brunch held around 10:00a.m. would include more breakfast items, while a brunch held closer to noon can still have a variety of breakfast selections plus salad, sandwich and even meat options. {Tip:} While you want to make sure everyone has time to rest from celebrating the night before and not have brunch too early, you also want to keep in mind the travel plans of family and friends. Some may have a long drive ahead of them or may even have to be a the airport at a certain time – get with everyone to check on their departing plans before setting a time.
{4} Invites If it is going to be a very small group, then a verbal invitation is perfectly fine! However, a formal invitation is always nice. And formal doesn’t mean the actual invitations have to cost much. Sending out actual invitations will also remind guests to RSVP – this way you will know the number of people you will have. This will also let you know how much food will be needed if it is gong to be catered. {Tip:} If you have a good idea the partying is going to last late into the night, keep that in mind when thinking about guests who may not show up for the brunch!
{5} Brunch Menu If you are planning more of a morning brunch {10:00am} you will want to have plenty of coffee, tea, juice or even a smoothie station! Breakfast foods such as eggs, quiche, bagels, muffins, pastries, bacon, sausage, and fresh fruit are great choices. An omelet or waffle station are also great ideas and always a hit! If your planning a later brunch, {noon -1:00pm} you can still include some breakfast items while also offering sandwiches, salads, cheeses, meat and maybe even pasta. {Tip:} While it is not a requisite, serving champagne or cocktails such as mimosas and bloody mary’s are always nice additions to a brunch!
{6} Keep it Simple! A post wedding brunch can be nice, but it doesn’t have to be extravagant! Keep it simple and relaxed! This is a great opportunity to re-use some of the flower arrangements from the day before (which will save you money!) If the brunch is hosted by a friend or family member, let them know that fine china is not a must, keep it easy and use nice, good quality plastic plates and cups. There are so many options out there these days when it comes to plastic tableware that you can still find some that are decorative and stylish! If your brunch is at a restaurant or café then all you will have to do is show up and enjoy while leaving the clean up to them. If you do have flower arrangements from the night before, check with them and make sure you can bring them in to set on the tables and get there just a few minutes early to do that! {Tip:} To add some ambiance, have some light music playing in the background if your location allows or have a video rolling with photos (perhaps one that was used the day before) for family and friends to enjoy and reminisce!
{7} Be Marry & Mingle! Take this time as a couple to really mingle and chat with those close to you! We all know sometimes it’s hard to do this during your reception because there are so many people to see and so much going on – so this is the perfect time! Take this time to thank everyone for their efforts, money spent, and traveling all for your big day! {Tip:} Be sure to bring your camera or have a friend or family member take some photos during the brunch. This will be the last chance to get photos with family and friends that might not have been captured the day/night before! You want to be sure to capture memories!!

Artist Kristin Wolfson: Custom Wedding Dress Portraits
We are so excited about this post today!
Wolfson coupled her creativity with her fashion design skills to create a life sized wedding dress painting.

The artist describes her wedding dress paintings as a modern twist on traditional bridal portraits. Wolfson loves the idea of this painting because it is such a beautiful and romantic memento of your wedding day and a completely unique piece of art that is oh-so-chic!
The brides dream dress, Vera Wang’s “Diana”, is a work of art in itself that easily translates into a painting. The swirling bustles of fabric in the ball gown skirt are reminiscent of a Georgia O’Keefe painting. Wolfsons vision was to create a statement piece for the couples contemporary home at a bold 48”x60” in acrylic and oil paint.
About The Artist:
KRISTIN WOLFSON is a classically trained New Orleans-based visual artist. Her modern approach to the figure and creative use of color evoke a whimsical sense of femininity with a touch of dark undertones. Wolfson’s multi-dimensional works are often a combination of painting and drawing including acrylic, oil, pastel, gold leaf and graphite. Her work is best described as a melding of contemporary abstract with detailed elements of classical realism. Some of her inspirations include Mucha, Egon Schiele, and the 19th century Dutch master painters. Even in her commissioned work, Wolfson maintains her sensible approach to reveal the emotion and spirit of the subject.
A graduate of Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts, Kristin Wolfson received additional training at the Rhode Island School of Design, New Orleans Academy of Fine Art, and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. After landing her dream job in early 2007 at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in New York City, Wolfson was the Executive Assistant to the Chief Creative Officer Gael Towey and Martha Stewart. In 2008 Wolfson was brought to Los Angeles, where she was an assistant fashion designer for Ed Hardy, Christian Audigier, and SMET in the outerwear and knits division. Being mentored by such an influential figure to the art world as Martha Stewart and a position in the fashion industry drove Wolfson to launch an art business of her own. The Kristin Wolfson Art Gallery is under construction with an opening set for the summer of 2011.

A wedding dress is a huge investment that is worn for one glorious day and then hibernates in your closet for eternity. Why not turn it into a statement piece for your home? It is the perfect luxury bridal gift that will make any bride feel like a celebrity!

{Guest Blogger P. Ashley Rix} The Art of CHOCISTRY
For the past five years I have been preparing for this moment – launching a virtual gourmet chocolate studio! Chocistry is my expression of my love of the sweet and adoration for the savory. The combination of the two creates the most unique array of handcrafted truffles.
Over the past 18 months I have participated in several major charitable events. My Signature Truffles won Best Dish at the 2011 Youth Villages Soup Sunday Souper Party featuring the city’s best restaurants and caterers at the FedEx Forum. I’ve held chocolate demonstrations, created chocolate displays and presented truffles at weddings. Chocistry is currently featured in Southern Bride’s Summer/Fall 2011 issue www.southernbride.com. Developing Chocistry into a recognizable brand that offers a truly delicious artisan product and more importantly, gives back to the local community and abroad is already underway… Now, I need YOUR help.
The Project:
My objective for this project is to accomplish three major goals: Purchase more chocolate and supplies needed to meet the demand once Chocistry goes to market (virtually), begin production on the branded packaging I designed and finally, rebuild chocistry.com into an interactive virtual chocolate studio so anyone and everyone who loves incredible chocolate can experience the eclectic art form of Chocistry.
I wanted to share my creations with anyone wanting to partake in them which is why creating a virtual chocolate studio and shipping all over the country and soon, internationally, made the most sense. The shipping is all set… Here is where YOU (yes you) come in…
The Pledge:
Your generous pledge will provide the capital I need to implement the three critical elements that will make sharing my fantastic chocolates possible.
As I developed Chocistry and all of the truffles and fine chocolates, I searched and searched for the best ingredients produced locally and from around the world.
Swiss chocolate, from the Cradle of Chocolate, the highest grade spices- like Spanish Saffron, fresh fruit purees, artisan sea salts, culinary grade flowers, the best loose tea leaves, honey direct from a honeybee farm, local goat cheese, cream, butter and bacon- (WOW, he really said bacon!), as well as herbs from my own garden are an example of some of the high-quality ingredients that were personally selected to be featured in the truffles I present to you. My truffles contain ABSOLUTELY NO PRESERVATIVES, just chocolate, cream and butter paired with select all-natural ingredients. Enjoying them within three weeks of receipt is recommended.
I wanted to design a box that first, met all of the standards for food-grade packaging, but then I wanted something different than the simple square or rectangular box with plastic trays. The end result of my collaboration with a packaging engineer was a simple yet elegant box featuring trays cut from the same high quality, recyclable paperboard with inserts that showcase the truffles, a hinged lid and a place inside the lid for a menu, so you will always know what is in your box. No more biting into a chocolate just to figure out what’s inside! You will love them with or without the information but I felt knowing would make the experience that much sweeter! My signature truffle and salted caramel gift boxes will come in four sizes:
5 piece made for two with one extra just for you!
15 piece the perfect gift…
25 piece the dinner party attention getter…
50 piece celebrate a significant accomplishment or give in recognition…
There is a minimum order of 1000 boxes per size which means I must purchase at least 4000 boxes! See why I need all of your support??? I will update this project with images of the samples being made when I receive them from my manufacturer.
The chocistry.com site will be a dynamic integration of art and technology. Blogs and social media will keep me connected to you chocolate lovers. Also on my website will be menus with detailed descriptions, photography to spark your imagination and excite your palate and information on civic engagements, events and program offerings. The current site looks great but the new site being designed by my friends at Spark Digital Alchemy will be AMAZING!
The Reward:
Keep in mind, this is an ALL OR NONE campaign… I have to raise at least my goal of $7500 and exceeding that goal is always welcomed!
So, once we accomplish this goal together, I will be sending you the awesome rewards described in the pledge/rewards section. With your support, I will be shipping your rewards by late Fall/early Winter. This will allow for the warm weather season to pass (next year warm weather shipping will be available) and it will be just in time for the holidays! Oh, and SHIPPING IS INCLUDED in your pledge! Because I ship, YOU CAN PARTICIPATE FROM WHERE EVER YOU ARE LOCATED (international shipping is not yet set up) – I will make sure you reap the benefits of your pledge! I have put together some really special and unique rewards because I want to thank you for all of your support and what better way to thank someone than with CHOCOLATE!
Cheers,
P. Ashley, Chocolatier & Chef

SB’s Southern Savors: Watermelon Bites
Nothing screams summer like Watermelon! It’s a classic, summer fruit and oh so refreshing. Of course it’s wonderful all by itself, but how about stepping outside the box and mixing this summer fruit with some other mouth watering favorites? We have just the recipe. It is Halloumi and Watermelon Bites. For those of you who are not familiar with Halloumi, it is a Greek cheese. This is perfect to serve for summer parties, events and yes, weddings! It will please your guests as they enjoy all the refreshing flavors.
{Recipe via Tastespotting}

Servings: 10 two-inch pieces
Ingredients
1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
2 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped
1 garlic clove, chopped (1 clove)
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
4-5 ounces Halloumi cheese, in 1/2-inch thick slices (slices can be cut smaller if you want them bite size)
Approximately 1-pound watermelon, rinds removed and sliced into bite-sized portions
Sea salt and pepper, to taste, if desired
Fresh mint, for garnish
Instructions
1. Combine the basil, mint and the garlic in a food processor and pulse until finely chopped.
2. Slowly pour the olive oil into the feed tube with the blade running. Puree until the mixture is smooth. (There may be a few bits of basil and mint remaining.)
3. Place the basil-mint oil in a strainer over a bowl and press to remove all the liquid. Discard the solids, and set the oil aside.
4. Preheat a grill pan over medium heat
5. Lightly brush the cheese with the basil-mint oil, and grill for approx 3 minutes each side. Flip as needed and brush with the basil-mint oil as desired. Grill until lightly browned and crispy.
6. Remove the cheese pieces from the grill and if desired, lightly grill the watermelon. (1 minute on each side.)
7. Assemble each piece by placing some Halloumi on top of each watermelon slice and garnish with salt, pepper, and fresh mint.
Savor the flavors and enjoy!!
Adel Amor Cosmetics on “Classic Cat Eyes”
1. Choose which color gel liner you need. I recommend dark brown for all hair and eye colors except for women with black hair and brown eyes. Women with black hair and very dark eyes can wear either black or brown gel liner.
2. With your gel liner brush, dip the brush into the liner and rub off any clumps or excess liner on the top rim of the gel liner jar.
3. This look is all about the pressure in your hand and it could take a few times to perfect so don’t get discouraged. Tilt your head back and look at yourself in the mirror. With this angle of your head, your eye lids should be fully exposed and taut.

4. Start with the inner corner of your eye and without pressing down, line your entire eye with a very thin line. This will create the base line that you will work with.
5. Once the line has dried, dip your brush into the gel liner again and go over the line once more, except, this time, once you get 1/3 of the way through the line, gently apply pressure to the brush so that the line begins to get thicker as you go along. This will create the look that Angelina has in this picture where her liner appears thin in the inner eye and grows thicker as it proceeds to her outer lid.
6. As you get to the very outer lid, let up on the pressure and lightly pull the liner brush out so that the liner comes slightly past the lid and ends to a point.
7. To help cover up a shaky hand or uneven line, dip your brush into a very dark shadow and lightly go over the line on your lid. It will help to smudge out any imperfections to create the PERFECT cat eye!
8. Lavish on some black mascara and…VOILE!

SB’s Wedding Tips
From time to time we post Tips on our Facebook page. No matter the size of the wedding, whether it is a small or large affair, there are always helpful tips that a bride should know.
In case you have missed some of the tips we have posted on Facebook, you’re in luck because we are about to share them with you!
Southern Bride’s Tips:
- When choosing music for your reception, whether it be through a DJ or live band, think of something that is not only your style and what you like, but also what your guests will enjoy. While it is your wedding, you want to see your guests enjoying the music and having a blast too!
- Don’t wait until it’s your wedding day to walk around in your “wedding” shoes. Wear them around the house here and there so you can get used to them! It’s always a good idea to give them a test run before hand just in case you find them unbearable or too high of a heel.
- If your reception is going to be quite the party and last well into the night OR if you are having a Fall or Winter wedding, consider having a coffee bar for your guests. You can have a variety of coffee, creams, syrups and perhaps even some little desserts!
- When ordering invitations, remember that you’re NOT to order for the # of guests you’re expecting, but the # of households! Say 4 people on the list are a family (parents with 2 kids.) They only need 1 invite. Often brides have so much going on & don’t think about this. So think before you place your invitation order, & save that money that you can put towards another detail of your wedding!
- When you are shopping for THE perfect gown and find some that you really like, see what each of them look like bustled. This way you know what it looks like instead of first seeing it bustled on your wedding day. It could make a difference on which dress you end up choosing!
- When planning and going to make some decisions whether it be your dress, invitations, or rentals – try to take no more than 1 or 2 people with you. Sometimes the more people you take along, the more opinions you will get, which can add unnecessary stress and confusion to the planning!
- Give your bridesmaids & groomsmen a disposable camera & even stash a couple in unusual places such as the rooms you will get ready in, & even your car or limo you will be riding in to & from your wedding day festivities. This will allow you to get some candid, fun shots throughout the day! Those can make for some of the best photos & memories!
- There’s no right or wrong choice when picking out your china, because it’s just that . . . it’s YOURS! However, you do want to give it some thought and ask yourself, “Will I like this pattern 10, 20, 30 years from now? Will I be able to use it year around?”
- When picking a caterer for your big day, try choosing one that includes servers. If you are having stations with different foods, having servers there will ensure that the food is replenished and kept looking neat and appetizing for your guests!
- If you plan on displaying family photos of past weddings (parents, grandparents, great-grandparents) at your wedding/reception, also include little cards next to each photo explaining who it is, as well as the date & year. This will make it more interesting to your guests as they look at them!
- Are you concerned about losing guests during the transition from the ceremony site to the reception? If that is a concern, choose a venue where you can have both your wedding and reception. This will keep your guests from traveling to a second location and ensure that people don’t just show up for the wedding and not the reception!
- You don’t have to do it all on your own! Get him involved! It takes both bride & groom to have a wedding. Yes, there are some tasks you want to be in charge of yourself, but pick a few that he can do. Many brides today are working or going to school, & planning a wedding can seem like a 2nd job. He doesn’t just have to show up to the wedding, he can help you along the way . . . if you let him!
- If you know you are going to have out of town guests attend your wedding, reserve blocks of hotel rooms. You can usually get a discounted rate for a set amount of time. Pick 2 or 3 hotels in different price ranges to accommodate your guests financial situations.
- Remember, things always look different on the hanger! So when you are wedding dress shopping, keep an open mind! If you see something hanging up that kind of appeals to you, go ahead and try it on! You never know . . . it could be THE dress!!

{Ask the Expert} Adel Amor Cosmetics has the answers!
Ask The Expert Question 2:
“I use MAC make-up…..Since its almost summer, what are some good colors as far as lipstick and eye shadows, something light not heavy? So many of us mess up when it come down to this.”
MAC is a great line. Before I created Adel Amor Cosmetics, I used a lot of products from MAC and Dior. I based the products in my line off of the products I most loved from other lines.
Check out Adel Amor Cosmetics. All of the products contain ingredients that benefit your skin! www.adelamor.com
To answer your question, look at Adel Amor’s shadow quads especially “Nakeds” and “Influencer” quads for bronzy, natural eyes. All of Adel Amor’s shadow quads can go on dry for a light, natural look, or wet for a more dramatic, metallic look. Finish the shadow off with a winged liner. Adel Amor’s “Chocolate Brown” Gel liner will do the trick! For a more smokey, summer’s night look, try Adel Amor’s “Naturalist” Quad. The darkest shadow in this set can be used on top of the gel liner to give the liner a more smudged look.
As far as lips go, nude is IN this summer. Adel Amor’s best selling lipstick for the season is “True Love”. This bare, nude lipstick can be worn with Adel Amor’s “Clay” liner and finished off with the pink shimmery nude “Seduction” gloss. Some other popular lipsticks at Adel Amor Cosmetics are “Mercy” and “Playful”. Other popular glosses are Mineral gloss “Nude Blush” and Liquid Gloss “Plush” and “Pink Champagne”.
The Model Below is wearing “Nakeds” Shadow Quad and “Chocolate Brown” Gel Liner on her eyes and “Playful” lipstick, “Heather” Liner, and “Plush” Gloss.

How to be a Good Southern Wedding Host {Guest Blogger}
Today we have guest bloggers Raquel Miranda Hinson and Beth Blose Wilson from Mahaffey Tent and Party Rentals discussing etiquette! Enjoy and visit Mahaffey Tent and Party Rentals blog: Enchanting Events for more tips!
How to be a Good Southern Wedding Host!
Being a gracious host is a big part of planning a wedding. Though it is your day, the people whom you chose to invite are your guests and should be thought of during the planning and on the day of your wedding.
Information is Power
It’s important to be as informative as possible when telling your guests about your upcoming nuptials. Save the Date cards, invitations and wedding websites are the best ways to inform your guests as a collective. Websites such as The Knot offer free hosting for wedding websites where you can provide guests with information on hotels, things to do in your city, driving directions, specific attire concerns and more. If your location is new or particularly obscure, a direction card on how to get there should also be included in your invitations. Most importantly, your invitations should indicate the formality of the ceremony and reception and should be sent out within 6-8 weeks of your wedding date.
Thank You Notes
Today, it’s not uncommon for a couple to have multiple wedding showers prior to getting married. Promptness in sending out thank you notes is greatly appreciated by everyone and it will save you for doing them all at once post-wedding. Designate one person per shower to write down who gave you what to insure personalized thank you cards and they should be in the mail within 10 days of your shower. Don’t forget, send a thank you note to the people who threw you the shower, even if they don’t give you a gift. As for guests who bring gifts to the ceremony, those thank you cards should be received two weeks after you return from the honeymoon.
Food for Thought
Receptions come in all shapes and sizes these days, particularly when it comes to food. The time of your ceremony generally indicates what type of food will be served- if your reception is at dinner time, it’s time to feed your guests dinner. Afternoon or very late evening receptions, however, have more flexibility. If you decide to serve a full meal, be mindful of your guests. If you’re a die-hard vegan, ask the caterers for a vegan plate for you but otherwise, plan your menu for the masses. Particularly in the south, most guests won’t understand what a non-dairy dinner entails and will likely leave your reception hungry and confused.
Drinks Are On the House
Imagine if a friend or family member invited you over for a gathering of any kind and then asked that you pay them for your glass of wine. Having a cash bar at a wedding is essentially the same concept. Of course, not everyone wants to or can afford an open bar of every drink imaginable but there are creative options to keep everyone happy. If it’s a conservative reception or a need to cut costs, just serve everyone a glass of champagne for a toast. Another option is to eliminate liquor and simply serve wine and beer; having one white wine, one red wine and your favorite brew is a completely appropriate way to celebrate at your reception without breaking the bank.
Keep these little things in mind and also that, while it’s a day for you and your new spouse, it’s also polite and expected to remember the guests with whom you’ve decided to celebrate this amazing occasion.
Aruna Seth Shoes & the Celebrity Bride who wore them
Actress Sara Rue recently got married and not only was her dress unique and beautiful, but so were her shoes!! Her “something blue” were a beautiful pair of Aruna Seth turquoise blue shoes. They were stunning! Her bridesmaids wore a dress to match and similiar Aruna Seth shoes in a beautiful ivory satin. The bridesmaids also wore lovely Aruna Seth crystal brooches in their hair too.
So who/what is Aruna Seth you ask? Aruna Seth offers most desirable shoes for ladies of all ages who truly wish to spoil themselves. Her father and brother both run well-established footwear companies and she has a four generation family history firmly in the shoe world! Aruna has visited shoe factories and gained first-hand knowledge of the curtained process of shoe manufacture since she was a young girl. After college she chose to follow her dream and to start Aruna Seth shoes in 2006. Her multicultural background brings inspirations for her collections from a wide range of all cultures. Aruna travels the globe, visiting the fashion capitals of the world including Paris, Milan, New York and Moscow in search of elegant and inspiring pieces.

“My desire, as long as I can remember has been to make the most beautiful, luxurious shoes in the world.”
Jelly Shots {A classy version of the Jell-O Shot}
What are Jelly Shots you ask? Jelly Shots are classic cocktails translated into gelatin form, i.e. a grown-up, classy version of the Jell-O Shot! The hallmarks of a Jelly Shot include: a flavor true to the cocktail inspiration and a free-spirited jiggly form that makes them a delight to devour. These are perfect for any party, wedding or event. They are not only tasty, but also little pieces of art!
If you do serve these at an event where children will be present, make sure you have someone at the station where the Jelly Shots are being served, or have them passed around by someone to ensure that the kids don’t get their hands on them. It’s probably a good idea to have some Jello gigglers for the kiddos, so they feel like they have something fun and yummy too!

China Patterns & How to Choose the Perfect Set
Picking a china pattern is something brides have been doing for quite a long time. It is an important task and something a bride should put some thought into since she will probably being using it for many years to come.
1. The china you select should be a reflection of you as a couple, your peronality, and style.
2. Think about how you decorate your home or how you see yourself decorating your home. If you are into modern, clean lines when it comes to furniture and decorating, then think about that when it comes to choosing a pattern.
3. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns! It’s often fun to take a striped dish and mix it with another set. This ads character and makes for a fabulous dinner table!
4. Don’t take many people with you when it’s time to select. Go with your fiance and do this together, as a couple. Too many opinions can make it hard when choosing the china you really want!
5. While you do want to think about the future when it comes to picking a pattern, don’t let that keep you from picking what really speaks to you. You want to choose something that you love and enjoy using, even if it’s not everyday! If something speaks to you, then go for it!
{China photos from Dillard’s}
There is no right or wrong when picking out your china, because it’s just that . . . it’s yours! However, you do want to think about picking something you can use year around, that can be used throughout all the seasons (that way you can use it more often.) For example, if you pick something with a pastel blue, you may only use it for Easter or dinners during the Spring and Summer months rather than using it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. You also want to ask yourself, “Will I like this pattern 20 years from now?” I have heard many women say today that they wish they had picked something else, something more classic and versatile. Classic doesn’t mean boring, but is something to consider when picking fine china!

Kick Up Your Heels!
A couples personality is captured in their wedding photos in so many ways. Couples who are on the more playful side give photographers great shots and a lot to work with! Whether it’s walking down the aisle, on the dance floor, seeing each other for the first time, or just a moment together, having those candid photos to look back on are true treasures.
{Emily Kicklighter Photography}
Grooms, and sometimes even brides, like to “kick up their heels” on their big day . . . literally! This is such a fun expression of the excitement of the day and of course makes for a great photo! Some of the best photos like this are those that happen in the moment. I don’t know that many grooms or couples for that matter, plan on doing this (some may) but when it’s something that just happens in the moment, it is a picture perfect expression of the joy of getting married!
And that’s me, yours truly, on my wedding day in December 2007! I had no idea this was about to happen, but he kicked up his heels and it made me grin from ear to ear!
If you would like to share some fun, candid photos of your wedding day, send them to us at info@southernbride.com with the subject SB BLOG.

Spring Glow
Now that Spring has arrived, most of us are sprucing up our wardrobes. It’s always fun to pull out our Spring clothes and go shopping for the hot Spring trends, but why not spruce up your face for Spring too? Alexandra Nicole of Adel Amor Cosmetics has given us some fabulous tips on how to do just that! It’s not hard to achieve a beautiful, Spring glow if you just follow these 6 simple steps!
1. With a powder brush dust the Mineral SPF 15 Powder all over your face. If you need concealer, I suggest to use the Mineral Illuminating Pen, as it is a very light formula for a luminous, light look.
2. Next with a blush brush, swipe a bright, light Blush Glow on the cheek bones. I recommend Sparkling Rose, Whisper Apricot, or Kiss of Pink for a glowing spring look.
3. Now take the Seychelles Highlighter Sheen and, with the blush brush, highlight just above the cheek bones to create a lifted, contoured look.
4. With the same blush brush, mix the sheen and blush. Dust the mixture onto your eye lids for a quick, natural shadow.
5. Apply mascara and liner as you usually do.
6. Finish off your look with a Mineral Lip Mousse
