Parents are there for us through all of our life’s highs and lows, and one of the most highly anticipated times in our lives, the wedding, is no exception. On National Parents’ Day, we want to recognize and appreciate all those who have taken on a parental role, in any shape or form, and have guided us with love.  One of our favorite brides featured in the new Summer/Fall 2020 issue, Amanda Feldman, shares the importance of her parent’s love and support and how she included them in a very special way on her wedding day.

Celebrating National Parents Day Mother And Father Walking Bride Down The Aisle

“While my husband and I opted for a non-religious wedding ceremony, we chose to weave in certain customs and traditions that felt meaningful to us from our respective backgrounds. I was raised Jewish, and in the Jewish tradition the bride is escorted down the aisle by both parents. Beyond the traditional aspect of it, I loved the idea that both my mom and dad, who have each had such a profound impact on who I am and who I’ve become as an adult, would get to equally take part in that special moment. Whether it’s for a religious reason or not, I absolutely recommend having both parents walk you down the aisle if it’s something you’re considering! The love and support you feel from both of them as you’re taking such important steps into your next chapter is comforting and made me feel whole.”

“For the last few minutes of my father-daughter dance, where my dad and I danced to Styx’s “I’m Sailing Away,” when the beat picked up we had my mom and sister come join in too, and made it a little family dance. I have fond memories of listening and singing along to that song in the car as a kid with my family, and it only felt right to include them all. It also made for a fun, unexpected surprise for our guests! We have so many photos that people sent to us of just the four of us out on the dance floor together.”
