The Proposal

We frequently laugh at our proposal story because it definitely did not go as planned. It was a few days before Thanksgiving and Jacob made us dinner reservations downtown near where the giant Christmas tree was supposed to be on display. Long story short- it was freezing cold, the Christmas tree was not lit, and the hidden photographers weren’t where he thought they’d be. Regardless of the hiccups, I think it was perfect. I only wished I had complained a little less about the cold weather. Afterward, we went to dinner to celebrate by ourselves and then went home to a house full of friends and family to celebrate even more.

In Preparation

Being a wedding planner myself, I started the planning process a little differently than most brides. I’m so grateful to say that all my vendors are people who I have worked with and known for years. Tastings and meetings felt more like coffee and catching up with some wedding talk thrown in, of course. It was hard to step back and realize that this wedding was going to be an event where I couldn’t manage every detail of the day. I’m so grateful that I had a team that I trusted to complete my wedding vision. I truly loved the planning process. Finally getting to using all my knowledge and skills to plan my own wedding was more fun than I expected.

The Big Day

There’s no amount of preparation that can actually prepare you for such an amazing day. Since I see wedding ceremonies and receptions happen all the time, I really thought I knew what to expect, but the emotions of that day were so real. I was anxious and excited all at the same time. I kept reminding myself to enjoy the little moments and soak up every detail that I could. Jacob and I chose to do a first look, and I am so glad we did. Getting to see him and have some time together before we were surrounded by the celebration was exactly what we needed. And those sweet wedding day tears are something I will never forget. Our ceremony was beautiful, set in a backyard cove surrounded by nature and gorgeous flowers. After that, we spent the rest of the night celebrating with friends from near and far. With having our wedding in Auburn, there was no better way to end the night than to go and roll Toomer’s corner- an Auburn tradition. After every victory people come and roll the tree to celebrate.

The Retreat

The day was pure bliss. There is nothing better than spending time relaxing with your new husband after a full weekend of wedding activities and celebration. We stayed at a beautiful resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and loved every minute of sand and sunshine. We reminisced about our favorite wedding moments, laughed lots, watched sunsets and dreamed about our future together.
