The First Encounter

Mark and I met in 2005 while working together in Texas. We became friends and quickly realized that what we had was much more than friendship. After dating for several months, we started a new chapter and moved to Florida in 2006. Like many Millennials, we didn’t take a traditional path to “happily ever after.” We adopted three dogs, purchased our first home and created a great life together. In 2014, Mark surprised me at our New Year’s Party with the best question ever, “Will you marry me?” I was completely ecstatic that our closest friends were with us to celebrate!

In Preparation

We knew we wanted a location that could accommodate the ceremony and the reception. But it was just as important to us to find a venue exuding southern charm–a space both classic and timeless. When I first arrived at Luxmore Grande Estate, I knew it was exactly what we were looking for. It was the perfect blank canvas to let my imagination run wild. I spent 6 months planning with the help of all my best friends. I integrated mixed metals, modern design, hydrangeas and succulents into the decor. But my favorite design element was the incredible Chuppah that Mark built! I couldn’t have dreamt of a more gorgeous and sentimental Chuppah under which to become husband and wife.

The Big Day

I remember waking up the day of our wedding and counting down the hours until we said, “I do!” The bridal party and I arrived early in the morning to start our journey to beautiful. We had the best time getting ready and enjoying each other’s company. I will never forget the moment I finally got to put my dress on! It takes a village, and I had the best village a girl can imagine. Throughout the day, I began to see all of our ideas come to life-and all the details were more perfect than I could have ever imagined! From the flowers to the table details to the beautiful library, everything was picture-perfect. One of my favorite moments was signing our Ketubah in the library. I brought in photos of loved ones that were no longer with us, along with personal items that had sentimental value. We had a first look before signing the Ketubah, and I will never forget walking down that beautiful staircase ready to tap Mark on the shoulder! It truly was a fantastic celebration with all of our closest friends and family. Time flies by on the big day, but I love all the special moments that will stay with us forever.

The Retreat

Mark and I went to Alys Beach in Florida’s panhandle for our Honeymoon. Due to Tropical Storm Colin, our first seven hours were spent in the airport waiting for a delayed flight that was eventually cancelled. We officially had our first challenge as a married couple! We grabbed our bags, rented a car and began our journey. Six and a half hours later we arrived in paradise. The water was crystal clear and the beach was so white it was reflective. We spent the next five days relaxing, doing touristy things and simply enjoying being together. One of my fondest memories is when my first Pina Colada arrived and the server said, “Here you go Mrs. Hirsekorn!”
