The First Encounter
For New Year’s, we traveled to Mexico for what I thought was a last minute trip. Weeks before, though, Justin had chosen a ring and talked to my family. On New Year’s Eve, we had a fun dinner on the beach and then counted down to the new year. We were walking along the beach, and Justin got down on one knee. I was so surprised that I spilled the margarita I was holding all over him.
In Preparation
We currently live in Chicago, but I am from the South and wanted a Southern wedding. We toured several awesome venues in Atlanta, but our last stop was the Biltmore Ballrooms and I was sold. The plaster relief ceilings and crystal chandeliers in the ballrooms were the main draw for me. It was sometimes challenging to plan a wedding from Chicago but, thanks to technology and some carefully planned trips to Atlanta, it all worked out. On that same trip, we locked in a wedding planner. On our next trip we met with caterers, floral designers and cake companies. For our last visit we had food tastings, a make up trial, and a final walk through of the wedding venue.
The Big Day
The day was easily the best day of our lives (aside from the day our baby girl was born). Our friends and family traveled from all around the country and the world to celebrate with us. We decided to have our ceremony in the Imperial ballroom and the reception in the Georgian ballroom. The cocktail hour was held in the lobby in between. We settled on a classic style wedding with blush and gold as the main colors. Everything was better than we imagined it would be, from the look of the décor to the taste of the food. We were truly happy with how everything turned out.
The Retreat
We traveled to Hawaii for our honeymoon. We visited Maui and Kauai. Some of the highlights included a farm tour and gourmet lunch on the O’o Farm in Maui, a helicopter tour in Kauai, and all the shaved ice we could dream of! Our favorite restaurants were Mama’s Fish House and The Dolphin Restaurant.
