The First Encounter

It was New Year’s Eve and we were getting ready to go to our friend’s house to celebrate the arrival of 2016. While I was getting ready upstairs, Adam was cooking and prepared the dining room table. He lit candles, had a specially printed poem lying near the dinner plates and a precious bow tie on our dog Bailey. As I came down the steps, he instantly started crying. He brought me to the table and handed me the envelope with the poem. He then got on one knee and proposed. I cried and immediately said yes!

In Preparation

A lot of work went into collecting all of the mixed vintage fine china for the place settings at the reception. I looked around for frames to display our beautiful engagement photos, vintage trunks to add height to our favor table along with crates that we white washed. I also collected various silver and mercury glass pieces to incorporate along with ornate frames that were painted and distressed and made into chalkboard signs. I wanted to create a formal space within this English garden-like setting and still maintain a formal and romantic feel. It took a lot of organization to get the rentals ready for the tented reception and outdoor ceremony as well as orchestrate the many other vendors who helped make this day so magical. We enlisted the help of our day-of coordinator, Martye Clendenin who helped think of final details and who made our wedding day flow.

The Big Day

I wanted our ceremony to be very personal and meaningful, so I wrote out and put together our entire ceremony. I wanted there to be elements highlighting our faith, relationship and special bond together, as well as our commitment to each other. There were so many tears of joy from Adam and I as well as the guests. It was the sweetest most emotional ceremony I have heard, from our written vows to the Blessing of the Hands. The cocktail hour led to an amazing ceremony that included all of the traditional elements but within the setting of a white tent under one hundred plus year old trees aside a historical estate where great writers such as F. Scott Fitzgerald once stayed. We were surrounded by beautiful centerpieces of rose and greenery-filled mercury glasses, floating candle light and the love, laughter and dancing of amazing family and friends.

The Retreat

After viewing many options, we decided to honeymoon at the Secrets Maroma Beach resort in the Rivera Maya in Mexico. We have never experienced such amazing service, food and relaxation in a gorgeous setting like this! The long, white sand beaches included many activities and options for entertainment. We spent a lot of our days sitting under thatched roof cabanas enjoying drinks and the amazing weather. This all-inclusive resort had the yummiest restaurants, the best service and most beautiful spa I have ever been to. All we can do is look at each other and say, “ Can we go back right now!?”
