The First Encounter

It was a particularly icy winter in NYC where we live, so we planned a quick Miami getaway the weekend after Valentine’s Day in February 2015. I met Craig there directly from a 2-week work trip, so really needed a break. We stayed at The Edition in South Beach, and as soon as I walked into our hotel room, I saw a pathway of rose petals and candles leading up to a small table with a little black box. Craig proposed before I even had a chance to put down my bags! It was a beautiful and intimate moment!

In Preparation

I grew up in Charleston so had a rough idea of what to expect, but planning a wedding from a distance was not easy! Luckily we had GREAT, experienced planners and a really solid idea of what we wanted our wedding to feel like – elegant, glam and tropical. A good 90% of our guests were coming from out of town, so we knew we wanted to create a really special, intimate feel for the day. We looked at a few venues but fell in love with the Avenue of the Oaks at the Legare Waring House. We decided to do the double venue at Legare Waring House and Founders Hall to take advantage of the outside for the ceremony at Legare, while utilizing the modern, spacious inside for the reception at Founders. It was perfect!

The Big Day

The day was exactly what we wanted and more – elegant, glamorous, tropical, and perfectly executed. Our guests were blown away by the music, décor, food, florals, and all the attention to detail we put in – personalized napkins, iphone fans on each ceremony seat to beat the heat, calligraphy mirrors, cigar bar, gourmet popsicles, lush centerpieces, and certainly our luxurious head table – people are STILL talking about the wedding 9 months later! The music was not typical wedding music at all, and our guests LOVED that. Everyone enjoyed the dancing and outdoor space equally – it was a hit!

The Retreat

For the honeymoon we wanted to go somewhere super remote, yet tropical – we decided on Bali. It was absolutely breathtaking – the perfect way to end all the wedding festivities. We spent half of the honeymoon at the beach in Semanyak, and the other half in the jungles of Ubud. Both were equally beautiful, but the jungles were one-of-a-kind. Ubud is incredibly relaxing and peaceful – well worth the nearly 24 hours it took to get to Bali!
