The Proposal

After graduating from nursing school, I planned a trip to Atlanta to reconnect with some friends and family. Aaron and his “co-conspirators” had secretly planned a surprise graduation party with my closest friends and family. Towards the end of the night, Aaron asked me to meet him outside. He asked me to look up at the balcony, where both my parents were smiling ear to ear. I’d always told Aaron that I wanted my parents to be at my proposal. Once I saw them, I knew what was getting ready to happen. Even though I knew, I couldn’t contain my emotions. It was my perfect proposal!

In Preparation

We decided to have the wedding in Houston, as it was a central location for both of our families. We wanted something intimate and classy, and the Bell Tower on 34th provided the perfect environment for what we were looking for. At the time, Aaron was coaching basketball at Kansas State University while I stayed in Houston, It felt like we were a world apart at times, but Alexia McWhinney of Savvy Wedding Consultants made the process extremely simple and fun, including wrangling our 17-person wedding party. Alexia’s network of vendors, from Plants & Petals décor to Divisi Strings quartet to Fred Agho Photography, turned our wedding day to an amazing event, and the compliments that we received from all of our guests made the process worth it all.

The Big Day

During the planning of our wedding, Alexia always told us, “Don’t worry, I will make sure you have no worries during your wedding day!” That was an understatement. Our wedding day was so smooth and really allowed us to enjoy the occasion. The process was so smooth that it really didn’t hit me that I was marrying the love of my life until I walked down the stairwell and saw Aaron standing at the altar with the biggest smile on his face. Divisi Strings quartet sounded so beautiful, and as Aaron and I exchanged vows and our “I Do’s”, I knew our life together would be an amazing journey. DJ Big Reeks turned our reception into the party that we’d always wanted, and we were able to share with our closest family and friends just how much Aaron and I love each other. It was a magical night.

The Retreat

We decided to hold off on the honeymoon for a while because Aaron was starting a new job, but that didn’t stop us from taking a “Pre-Honeymoon” trip to Playa Del Carmen. The Live Aqua Hotel is a beautiful venue minutes from the beach, and we were able to take in several excursions. We still plan to travel overseas soon, but the quick getaway was much needed.
