The Proposal

Chase proposed to me on New Year’s Eve at a charming, little a cabin outside of downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We were snuggled up together next to the fireplace waiting for the ball to drop, and minutes before ringing in the New Year Chase drops to his knee in front of the Christmas tree in the cabin and pops the question with my great-grandmother’s ring. It was so special and romantic! Of course, I said yes! After a celebratory champagne toast, Chase said he could not imagine starting the year off any other way than asking me to marry him.

In Preparation

I began planning our wedding a little over a year prior to our wedding date. Admittedly, the planning process was not always easy but Stephanie Whitaker with Engaged Birmingham was an absolute blessing and gave me a WONDERFUL preferred vendor list. I was so unbelievably happy with every single vendor I picked; they were all beyond amazing! However, we would not have been able to pull off all the details without my mom. She put her heart and soul into making sure we had everything accounted for and that our wedding represented a part of who we were as a couple.

The Big Day

Although the day went by so quickly, our wedding was an absolute dream come true. We made sure to incorporate family into every detail. Love was definitely in the air and I know everyone was feeling it. A perfect day we will never forget! One of the most memorable moments was definitely our first look. There is no feeling quite like the one you experience in the hours leading up to your future husband’s reaction when he sees his bride for the first time. So many emotions were running through me, mostly fueled by nervous anticipation, but it was magical. The second memorable moments was after the ceremony when our photographers, Katie and Alec told Chase to call me Mrs. Thigpen for the first time. Seeing the enormous smile on Chase’s face made me cry with so much joy. Our goal was for our guests to have fun – and we definitely succeeded. Guests danced all night thanks to our amazing band and are still raving about how our wedding was such an unforgettable experience. We are so thankful to all of our family, friends and vendors for making our wedding day dreams come true. To end the perfect evening, I finally was able to reveal a huge surprise to Chase that I had been keeping a secret for the last four months…a lightsaber send-off! To say he was excited is an understatement—more like ecstatic!

The Retreat

The Tuesday morning after our wedding we left for the Dominican Republic and honeymooned for six days at the beautiful Punta Cana Princess Resort! We spent a full week unwinding, relaxing and enjoying all the beauty that the Dominican Republic has to offer. The honeymoon was relaxing, adventurous, and plenty of time to let it sink in that we were finally together after three and a half years of long-distance dating. We enjoyed sipping cocktails beachside, swimming with dolphins, sailing, ATV excursion through the island and a romantic private beach dinner by candlelight. It was the perfect destination to start our journey as husband and wife.
