The Proposal

Gene’s parents always wanted to meet my sister who lived in Boston. His mom texted me just before Thanksgiving because she knew that my sister was in town, and she said she’d love to take my family out so they could finally meet her. Dinner was planned at our favorite steakhouse at 7:15…or so I thought. Gene and I arrived and entered a private room where we were the first guests. I noticed two shadow boxes – one with pictures of our travels and the other that read, “Marry Me?”. Gene then got down on one knee and proposed. We popped champagne, and our family arrived to celebrate.

In Preparation

Our family, faith and heritage are very important to us. We’re Atlanta natives and knew we wanted a big, southern wedding, so a ceremony at my parish then dinner and dancing at an Atlanta landmark was perfect. We booked the Cathedral of Christ the King within a week of our engagement followed by our reception venue, the Biltmore Ballrooms. From there, we booked our dream vendors and planned all the details to ensure our wedding exuded all things southern without losing the details of who we are as a couple.

The Big Day

Our wedding day was an absolute dream come true. It was important to Gene and me that we wrote each other love letters that we read before our first look. It allowed us to focus solely on each other before the evening’s events. The first look was magical, and from there, I knew our wedding would be a fairy-tale. My Catholic priest and Gene’s Methodist pastor (who are also good friends) co-officiated our ceremony, which made our union even more special. After the ceremony, we feasted on a southern supper and danced the night away with our loved ones.

The Retreat

The morning after our wedding, Gene and I hopped on a plane to Lanai, Hawaii. We spent a full week unwinding, relaxing and enjoying all the beauty Hawaii has to offer. Lanai was the perfect destination for us. More wildlife inhabits the island than people making it a very peaceful retreat. We enjoyed couples massages, daily trips to the beach, golfing, sailing and more pineapple & mai tais than we probably should have. It was the perfect destination to start our journey as husband and wife.
