The First Encounter

Phil purchased a vintage ring with a filigree setting from the 1920s. Beth loves that it’s a one-of-a-kind find from a vintage jewelry shop near the couple’s home in Uptown New Orleans. Phil proposed to Beth on Christmas Eve of 2014 at her family’s home in Dubuque, Iowa.

In Preparation

Beth and Phil desired a celebration that captured the festive spirit and unique culture of New Orleans. They chose a historic venue, the Marigny Opera House, located in a quintessential New Orleans neighborhood. A traditional second line was planned to immediately follow the ceremony, with a brass band parading the couple through the streets while guests followed waving white hankies. They selected a menu of local-style cuisine, including gulf fish, red beans and rice, and seafood gumbo. The décor was styled by Blue Gardenia Events with fall-hued colors of rich teal, deep burgundy and gold featured on a background of pale gray, ivory, and copper linen with natural birch elements, abundant fresh greenery and soft florals. New Orleans Swamp Donkeys performed live music. The couple wanted the event to deliver a grand introduction to New Orleans, a city rich in history and culture.

The Big Day

The bride and groom met for their first look in the lush and romantic Loa Bar of the International House Hotel. The ceremony music, played on a Steinway baby grand piano, included a jazz arrangement of Pachelbel’s Canon. Beth entered to La Vie en Rose inspired by New Orleans musician Louis Armstrong. The second line parade immediately followed the ceremony, leading guests to a festoon lit cocktail hour in the garden as the sun was setting. The evening reception included traditional New Orleans cuisine, dancing to live music of the Swamp Donkeys and a champagne toast to the newlyweds. The celebration concluded with a grand sparkler exit to a 1957 Bentley. All the festivities and elegant details were captured in photos by Arte De Vie.

The Retreat

The couple honeymooned a month later in Oahu, Maui and Kawai in the Hawaiian Islands. They just welcomed Elise Mary into their family on May 2, 2017.
