The Proposal

Zach and I met at a bar. We were both single and having a night out with friends. A few weeks later, we went on our first date to a concert, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. He first told me he loved me while we were walking into a country concert about one month later. I guess you could say concerts are our thing!

In Preparation

If you have ever been to Boone Hall or seen photos, you can see why we decided on the venue. It is a spectacular space. My sister was married in Charleston years ago, and after attending their beautiful wedding weekend, I knew that I wanted to get married in Charleston some day. My sister recommended a few plantations, so my mother and I set off to Charleston one December weekend to explore. It was raining the day we visited Boone Hall, but it was still absolutely beautiful. I could picture Zach and my big day from the moment I saw the venue. Fortunately, the weather was perfect on our big day.

The Big Day

Since the venue has a rustic vibe, I wanted to play that up a little but not overdo it. I have a very simple, classic taste, so I chose warm neutrals like taupe, blush, rose and ivory. We had a beautiful, eclectic mix of flowers with subtle accents including hints of rose gold and copper. I wanted the atmosphere to feel like a really fun, relaxed dinner party, so we chose long tables for dining and had delicious food stations for our guests to pick and choose from. Seeing Zach’s face as I walked down the aisle with my father will forever be engrained in my mind as well as in my heart. We had a first look prior, but that moment was still incredible. At the very end of the reception, our friend requested ‘Piano Man’ by Billy Joel, and as soon as the song came on, all of our guests made a giant circle with Zach and me in the middle. They swayed and sang as we danced our final dance of the evening. I was fighting back tears because we literally could feel the love the room.

The Retreat

We decided to honeymoon a few months after our big day in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort called Valentin Imperial Maya, which we loved. We liked that we could have our alone time but have some social aspects like performances and events sprinkled in. We both do not do well just sitting and relaxing for 7 days straight, so it was the perfect balance of relaxing and fun.
