The First Encounter

After two years of dating, Brandon proposed on July 3, 2015 following a day on the beach with family and friends. We gathered for a cookout and immediately after my dad blessed the meal Brandon called for everyone’s attention. We have an on-going joke about who’s going to ask the blessing and I thought Brandon was going to follow up with his own version. Instead, he surprised me by getting down on one knee. I said yes, and everyone cheered because they no longer had to keep the secret—everyone was in on the engagement plan but me!

In Preparation

Brandon and I didn’t dive right into planning and we spent a couple of months bouncing around ideas: destination wedding, small wedding & a big party, intimate ceremony & reception. We felt like once the first wedding decision was made, everything else fell into place with ease. Over Christmas, one of my bridesmaids flew in from Arkansas to go dress shopping. I had fallen in love with a Pinterest dress and Camille’s in Wilmington (NC) had it in store. When we arrived, we realized that the dress I had chosen was from the spring line and had not yet arrived in stores. Disappointed, but determined to find bridesmaids dresses THAT day (because getting all 5 bridesmaids in the same state was a little challenging) we started looking through the boutique. Less than twenty minutes later, a giddy Camille’s employee rushed over to us with a UPS box full of the Bari Jay spring 2016 line. That was just one of the “ I know this is meant to be” moments during wedding planning.

The Big Day

Brandon and I got married on Friday, June 3, 2016, the three year anniversary of our first date. A few weeks before the wedding we decided to do the “first look” on our wedding day—and we are SO glad we did. Those few, private minutes in between hair, make-up, greeting guests and cutting cake are my most cherished memories from our wedding day. Our day was perfect, but it went by so fast and I’m thankful that I have the clear, un-interrupted moments from our first look that I can draw on in the years to come.

The Retreat

So. Much. Fun. We reveled in being pampered for a few days after the wedding festivities. St. Lucia was a beautiful backdrop for our honeymoon and we loved everything about it: our Segway excursion in the rain, all-you-can-eat sushi, awesome “dirty bananas” at the pool bar. We already know of a great spot for our one year anniversary trip.
