Danielle Baker & Jared Smith
Under the Mossy Oak Trees

The First Encounter
We met during my freshman year at Flagler College. Jared was a sophomore and we played on the intramural softball team, “Bad News Bears”. Jared’s calm presence and sarcastic personality won me over. He has been an unconditional friend that I happened to fall in love with. Jared proposed among my family at my parents’ house, under my favorite tree. It was dreamy and absolutely perfect.
We both loved the idea of having the wedding in our alumni town, St. Augustine. As a native Floridian, my vision was of mossy oaks on a summer evening. We chose St. Augustine Road and Gun Club because it has the cathedral of trees and a view of the inlet. For months leading up to the wedding, my Mom and I searched for mixed china and jewel tone vases for the reception. We made all the centerpieces the day before the wedding, using wholesale flowers. One of my favorite things during wedding planning was working with Daniel Thompson to create the dress of my dreams.
The Big Day
My bridesmaids and bridesman rented a cute little cottage in downtown St. Augustine for the big day. We woke up early for a walk over the Lions Bridge with iced coffee. We had mimosas and fruit and cheese throughout the day with different visitors stopping by to say hello. A ceremony coordinator is a must-have, especially when the details start to come together weeks prior to the big day. But truly, the ceremony was the most meaningful. During our premarital counseling we were give homework to write a letter of what love means to us when we think of each other. We had not seen each other’s letter. Instead, the pastor read them during the ceremony. The wedding was perfect in every way.
We left for the Northeast shortly after the wedding. We rented a car and drove form Boston to White Mountain to Bay Harbor, Maine. One week long adventure of hiking, eating, and drinking was truly relaxing. We were exploring a different part of the United States together. It was so nice to have the time to reflect on the wedding week and each other. After the honeymoon, we returned home for a weekend prior to starting work. We had a day set for opening all the gifts and cards. It was so special to read the sweet words from friends and family. Married life has been truly amazing so far.
