The Proposal

We had decided to take a spontaneous road trip to Strawberry Park Hot Springs in Colorado. The next morning we set out to the springs. Before taking a dip, Nick suggested we go on a hike on the surrounding trails. Little did I know, he was searching for the perfect spot to purpose! To no avail, we returned to the springs. We found a private pool and Nick coaxed me up on a rock so that he was kneeling in the water beneath me. It was then he reached for a box from his backpack and popped the question! All I remember after that was saying “yes!” and “don’t let it fall in the water!” We celebrated with rooftop tacos, margaritas, and a movie in bed at our picturesque Airbnb.

In Preparation

My husband is a helicopter pilot in the Army and in our 8 years together, we have been through a 9-month deployment and 3 moves across the country. With many of our friends in the armed forces, this wedding was all about bringing our loved ones together and throwing one hell of a party!

The Big Day

We wanted a romantic, take-your-breath-away setting, but we also wanted our guests to feel at home and relaxed. That meant nixing the tuxedos and saying “I do” to late-night Chick-Fil-A biscuits and a pre-ceremony prosecco bar! We added in personal touches from having my cousin officiate to an engraved shotski to ring dishes made by the mother of the bride as favors. Oh, and the reason for all the laughter during the ceremony? My dad and I accidentally missed the aisle!

The Retreat

Because of Nick’s job, we decided to postpone a big trip and opted for something a bit more sentimental. When we first started dating almost 8 years ago, we took a romantic vacation to Destin, FL. We stayed at the Henderson Park Inn that was situated right on the beach. It had sunset happy hours, lawn games, complimentary candy bars, and in-room Netflix—all the important things! After the wedding, we were both ready for some serious romantic relaxation and couldn’t think of any other place we’d rather be. We enjoyed 5 nights of champagne on the beach and exploring Florida via cruiser bikes
