The Proposal

James surprised me one day when I came home from work. When I walked through the front door, he was there on one knee waiting for me. Little did I know, he had our doggy camera on filming the whole thing so we wouldn’t forget a moment of it. It was very special and intimate.

In Preparation

I plan events for work so I was very excited to get to plan my own wedding. I had been planning my perfect southern backyard wedding since I could remember. My mom came up to Savannah three times, we got so many things done in the two days she was in town.  Out of the dozens of dresses I tried on, my mom really did start crying when I put on “the dress,” and we knew it was the one. I wanted James to feel involved, so the very first thing I did was have James pick out what he wanted him & his groomsmen to wear. He chose navy suits and floral ties. He found his favorite tie on Amazon for about $7 a tie. I was a little worried they would look cheap so we ordered one just to see. It was perfect! I based the rest of the color palette on the ties James picked out. I wanted my wedding to feel very comfortable and casual. I wanted my guests to feel like they were hanging out in their own backyard.

The Big Day

It was important to me to incorporate Jewish wedding traditions into our non-religious wedding day. I think adding traditions connects you with your past, but it’s important to make them your own. During our ceremony, James and I stood under a Chuppah, a Jewish wedding canopy. Our family and friends also lifted us up in chairs and danced in circles around us during the Hora dance which is the other Jewish wedding tradition I kept for my wedding. Our friend, Steve, married us, and James had the entire room crying with his vows. We hired our friend’s band, The Brown Goose, to play our wedding and they totally rocked. The band even nailed our first dance which was “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. James even got up and played a few songs with them. It was like a rock show wedding. Everyone loved it!

The Retreat

This is just the start of our adventure, we are about to have a lifetime to travel together. In lieu of a honeymoon, we flew to New York City to meet up with ten of our best friends so we could celebrate this amazing day surrounded by the people we love. We had so much fun in the city that never sleeps, and we are looking forward to the start of a lifelong adventure!
