The First Encounter

We went on a spontaneous road trip and while in the car I asked where he had in mind- He responded, “I don’t know, somewhere happy.” Anywhere could be happy. “What about the happiest place on Earth.” What, Disney World? “Yes, let’s go there.” And off we went. After a day of rides we had a reservation for 2 at Emeril’s. We chatted with the chef and the waiter, Steve, came by to ask if we were celebrating anything special. We said we weren’t and he dropped off the check, explaining he had taken care of the majority of our meal. I thought, WOW, that was super nice and I got up to leave. Dane stopped me saying, “hey, let’s just hang out here for a moment.” We were the only guests in the restaurant at this point and I didn’t want to hold up the staff. The pastry chef poked her head around the corner and said we were fine. Dane held my hands and was talking to me about the day and something to the effect of “wanting to do this forever.” He was saying some sweet things, so I teared up a little and before I know it he is on one knee. I have no idea what he said and just nodded mindlessly, he put the ring on me and I said yes! Dane stands up smiling, we kiss, and out comes Steve with champagne. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

In Preparation

We knew we wanted fireworks and decided on a New Year’s Eve wedding pretty easily which just so happened to fall on a Saturday the next year. With New Year’s Eve, everyone is already looking for a party and there is no better way to bring in the New Year than to be surrounded by friends and family (and food and drinks). The Crowne Plaza Midtown was the first venue we visited and it was actually under construction when we did the tour. Even with the mess around us I loved the view and wanted the space for our “I Dos.” Our wedding planner was the planner for Dane’s parents and also his sister’s wedding, so it was beyond amazing to have her do ours as well.

The Big Day

One word- perfection. The ladies and I got ready at the W midtown Atlanta and listened to “Mrs. Robinson” while being pampered. I had butterflies the entire morning which stopped right after Dane turned around at our First Look Photos and smiled. The ceremony was meaningful, but also fun with bits of each of our personalities, like our Unity experiment in lieu of a candle to literally signify our bond. The reception was also held on the top floor of the Crowne Plaza and we had beautiful views for dinner and dancing all night. One of the things that stuck with me was my new husband telling me to “take it all in because never again will all of these people be in the exact same space again” and we stood there admiring the crowd. Right before midnight Dane lead the countdown and we brought in 2017 as Mr and Mrs. Robinson!

The Retreat

We had a mini-moon at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. Neither of us are mountain-scape people, but it was absolutely beautiful. The view of Blue Ridge was breathtaking at all times of day and the Spas in the area we among the best we’ve visited. It also helped to have great southern restaurants to choose from!  It was a perfect get away after all the preparation and partying. Our “real” Honeymoon vacation will be in Dubai this winter.
