The First Encounter
Michael told me that we were going to dress up and head downtown to meet my mom for dinner. We parked and walked towards the College of Charleston. As we neared the cistern, there was a photographer taking pictures of the campus and she asked to take our pictures (little did I know, Michael had hired her to take pictures of the proposal). After she took our pictures for what I thought was for the college’s magazine, Michael told me to turn around and standing behind us was our families and best friends. Michael got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife in front of all of our loved ones.
We decided to have a long engagement so we could truly enjoy the process. But living in Charleston meant we would have to book our vendors way in advance in order to get exactly what we wanted. We weren’t even engaged for a week before we went to look at venues. I knew that I wanted a “low country” feel to our wedding since my family was from up north and a lot of them had never been to Charleston before. We fell in love with Magnolia Plantation immediately because of the sprawling oak trees, blooming azaleas, and the Ashley River being the backdrop to our wedding. From there we were able to book our dream vendors and put the pieces together to make our wedding vision a reality.
The Big Day
When we woke up on our wedding day it was rainy outside and I was not having any of it. Luckily, it cleared up about 20 minutes before the ceremony began. It was a very chilly and overcast March day despite the forecast saying otherwise. But nonetheless it was the most perfect day. Michael and I are very traditional and wanted to wait to see each other until my parents walked me down the aisle. I have never been more ecstatic to get to the end of that aisle and marry Michael. After the ceremony, we danced from beginning to end and ate and drank our hearts out. Seriously, everything was beyond perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a more seamless night.
The week after our wedding was spring break (we are both elementary teachers) so we went on a mini moon to our favorite place, the North Carolina mountains. We were able to unwind from all the craziness and spend a week relaxing with our pups, which made us the happiest newlyweds. After we got back from the mountains, the countdown was on for our actual honeymoon over summer break. We wanted a week full of relaxation and overflowing drinks so we headed to Riviera Maya, Mexico and stayed at the Hideaway at Royalton and it was beyond perfection.
