The Proposal

Last summer was our last opportunity to vacation until Scott left for Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force base, so we decided to go to Florida accompanied by several of our closest friends. Half way through the trip, more of our close friends surprised us where we were staying, so we decided to all go out and celebrate. We arrived at a locals only part of town tucked away in a private cove. While waiting for our reservation, we decided to grab champagne and snap a sunset picture on the beach. Funny enough, I wasn’t in the mood to go tromping through the sand but reluctantly agreed. When we reached the beach, it was perfect. The breeze was calm, the sun had just begun to set, and the sound was pure tranquility.  As I was gazing out into the ocean’s mighty vastness, I turned around, and Scott was on one knee. I was so surprised. Everyone had champagne in one hand and pictures at the ready in the other. They were all in on it! It was so special and sweet that he planned this evening and everyone was able to take part.

In Preparation

A few months after Scott’s proposal I was ready to start planning. With Scott being in the Air Force, we were unsure of his first assignment, so we made plans for a January wedding in Atlanta in an attempt to be close to our family and friends. Having planned hundreds of weddings in Atlanta, I already knew every vendor I wanted before really sitting down to plan. Our biggest hurdle in planning was Scott being at Officer Training School and not having access to email or a phone for a majority of the training. Luckily, I was still able to include him in a few of the planning details, but he was happy to let me take the lead.

The Big Day

It was a clear, crisp day in January, and I was so excited to finally say “I Do”. Once hair and makeup were complete, I was ready to see my best friend and future husband. We had our first look on the balcony of the hotel surrounded by the Atlanta skyline followed by photos with our two Great Pyrenees, Cosette and Einstein. Everything from the ceremony and flowers down to the exact photo details were exactly what I had dreamt. My mom even incorporated a special surprise for us with personalized Cosette and Einstein shaped cookies for everyone! At the end of the evening, I had one last surprise for Scott – a live performance from a fellow DJ friend of mine singing Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.” Our wedding day was an absolute dream thanks to our amazing family and team of vendors.

The Retreat

I already had a calendar committed to other couple’s weddings, so our honeymoon was put on hold for quite some time. In fact, we postponed the honeymoon until our anniversary date, and the only place I wanted to go was Oahu, Hawaii. We were blessed with beautiful weather while we were there and took advantage of venturing around the island, but we also managed to find some time to relax. One of my favorite evenings was spent taking photos on the beach followed by an incredible anniversary dinner at the Four Seasons. We never had the chance to do engagement photos, so I made this day extra special by hiring a photographer to capture this special time together.
