The Proposal

Kyle and I actually picked out the diamond together so I was aware that something would be happening at some point. Kyle purchased the diamond and the band by himself and stashed it away without my knowledge. After a couple months of waiting and wondering, he finally sprung the question before we were going out to a nice restaurant. We were in our apartment, and it was simple but intimate and was “us”. We were then able to enjoy a nice dinner to celebrate the “yes”!

In Preparation

Honestly, we visited way more venues than was necessary and overwhelmed ourselves with too many options. However, after going to a friend’s wedding reception that was small and intimate, we decided to downsize. We visited Airlie and saw their smaller space accompanied by a beautiful deck, and knew it would be perfect for inviting just our closest family and friends. In addition, we wanted to maximize the time we could spend with our guests by planning other activities instead of having a DJ and dancing. Since Airlie provided a lot of the necessities for us, we only needed to find a photographer, florist, and baker. Once we selected our vendors, ironing out all the tiny details was difficult but doable. Mostly with the help of my mom, we managed to plan everything out.

The Big Day

Aside from getting locked out twice from the bridal changing suite and not having my phone with me, everything else went smoothly for the bride! My mom and maid of honor did a lot of work going back and forth across the venue site to help setup. The groom and co. arrived on time and we did a first look photo shoot. This was a great opportunity to get pictures out of the way and to settle some nerves beforehand. Our officiant did the ceremony wonderfully as we were on the deck overlooking the pond. Cocktails were had on the same deck, and we moved inside the building where our florist did a wonderful job decorating the space. Instead of dancing, we played some trivia with our guests and the “shoe game” which was entertaining for our guests.

The Retreat

We left just a couple days after our wedding for our trip to an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica. It was a great time of year to go, and we stayed for about a week. We enjoyed having all the drinks we wanted, the food, the jerk chicken, and just being able to relax and take a break from it all. We returned home to our new house that we had purchased before the wedding, and have been continuing to settle in!
