The Proposal

I was in school in Alabama while Mason was in military training in Destin, FL. I regularly went to visit so I thought nothing different about this visit on one of my long weekends off school. I could tell Mason was acting a little different, but an engagement never crossed my mind. We had a nice dinner planned; but, beforehand we had to do a favor for one of Mason’s friends, who just happened to live near the beach we often visited. That favor turned into him on one knee with Thomas Rhett’s, Die A Happy Man playing at White Point Beach overlooking the ocean at sunset.

In Preparation

I am a perfectionist in every aspect of my life and wedding planning was sure to be no different. With that being said, we had to change our wedding date 6 months into planning and you can only imagine what that was like for this calendar queen. The hardest part was picking over the thousands of beautiful themes and ideas, while figuring out what I had pictured for my big day. My goal was to give myself over a year to plan and plenty of time to change my mind a thousand times, but we had to make some adjustments with the date change. I learned very quickly in the wedding planning process that every detail I said I wouldn’t worry about or didn’t care about; did in fact matter and many of those things became a focal point of the wedding. Despite the months and months of hard work, not every single thing will go perfectly right, but it will still be the most beautiful day to cherish forever.

The Big Day

If you know anything about Alabama in April, you know that the weather is very unpredictable. So, our day included an overcast morning which made for beautiful pictures and a stormy afternoon that placed us inside our gorgeous venue. But hey, they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right? As the ceremony time approached, the nerves kicked in; despite the ceremony move, as soon as I saw the enormous crowd that came to celebrate Mason and myself all those nerves went away. After, we indulged in some amazing food and danced the night away with the most important people in our lives. We could not have asked for a more fulfilled day!

The Retreat

With me still in Alabama finishing nursing school and Mason now in Virginia getting ready for deployment, we took the sacrifice of postponing our honeymoon until he gets back. The plus side of that is, we are planning to take a honeymoon times two. One in an extravagant tropical location and one in Europe. Perhaps, Ireland/Scotland where our last name takes its origin.
