The Proposal

Drew wanted to plan a trip to Crystal Beach before meeting my family for the weekend. The last night, Drew and I took a walk on the beach at sunset, and I obliviously saw fireworks start! However, it was soon after Hurricane Harvey so there was a rare burn ban in effect. The sheriff drove up but we quickly told him – not us! – and drove on. Drew decided this was the moment, got down on one knee and I said yes! Unbeknownst to me, Drew had coordinated all of this with my family! And although the fire department eventually put out the display, no one got arrested, and we loved celebrating our engagement together!

In Preparation

We decided to have our wedding in McKinney, TX, outside of Dallas. Since we are from Louisiana and New Jersey, and had recently moved to Texas, this was all new! In the nine months, it took a lot of google searching and browsing on The Knot to find the venue and all of the vendors but I could not have been happier with all of them! Drew and I both wanted a unique venue, so the history and rustic charm of McKinney and the Cotton Mill was an instant choice. After being in numerous weddings, I had a good feel for my vision with colors and flowers, but I couldn’t have made all of the decisions or gotten it all done without my mom and sister (and Pinterest)! It was all worth it to see it all come together and was exactly the timeless romantic day that we hoped for!

The Big Day

Our day went about as perfectly as we could have ever hoped. The bridesmaids got ready at the venue while the groomsmen got ready at our house before a Catholic ceremony at 1pm. From walking down the aisle and seeing each other for the first time to saying our vows, it was a tear-jerker but so meaningful and unforgettable. After the ceremony, we had several hours before cocktail hour. We loved getting to spend some time with our wedding party in a limo bus and a cocktail bar downtown. The reception venue looked so beautiful and we danced the night away with an amazing 10-piece band. Through it all, it was important to us to add in personal touches – from the Italian rehearsal dinner to the Nashville (where we met) cookbook guest book, chocolate fleur de lis favors and brass band sendoff – it made the weekend so special for
us!

The Retreat

We spent a relaxing week at an all-inclusive resort in Cabo San Lucas. It was wonderful to lounge at the pool and spend the days relaxing. The weather was beautiful and we took a couple of afternoons to play golf and explore the city. It was the perfect way to get away, enjoy time together after the wedding. Although there weren’t any fireworks (or sheriffs), it was so fun to return to the beach now as a married couple!
