The Proposal

Tyler surprised me by waiting outside the testing center when I completed my first medical board exam. After a moment of decompression, he grabbed his guitar and took me to our favorite park so we could sing together. The last song he did was one he and his brother had written for us. That’s when I knew for certain! He put his guitar in the case, pulled a jewelry box out, and got down on one knee asking me to marry him. I said “YES” as emphatically as possible. Then he held me, slipped on the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen, and told me our families were around the corner. It was the perfect day.

In Preparation

Planning a wedding during the third year of medical school did not make for a conventional journey, but we enjoyed the wedding of our dreams thanks to a lot of help from my mom and sister. We knew quickly after visiting the Lightner Museum that it was the perfect venue for our wedding, and we were always on the same page concerning our vision. Our goal was really to highlight the architecture and design already in place at the museum. All we wanted to add was greenery, lights, and make our guests comfortable enough to fully enjoy the evening. I was so fortunate to have my mom to coordinate and make decisions on my behalf, as I spent our engagement in Gainesville completing rotations at the hospital. I was in constant communication with her, and she relayed our thoughts to vendors to produce the classic elegance I always imagined.

The Big Day

Our experience was similar to that of most couples, it was simply the most incredible day of our lives for so many reasons and it goes by way too fast. From the moment I woke up in the morning, I was surrounded by dear friends and family enjoying hugs, smiles, laughs, and happy tears. Hair and make-up quickly progressed to photos and before we knew it I was walking down the aisle at the ceremony. It was so important to me to lay eyes on every detail we had put together, from the altar and centerpieces to the gift table and dessert display. I wanted to remember it all! I’ll never forget the moment we sat down at the reception and took in the view of a lifetime. It was such a spectacular space decorated more beautifully than I could have imagined and filled with all the people we love most.

The Retreat

Because I had to return to clinical duties quickly after the wedding, we waited until April to take our honeymoon to Greece. It truly made for even more fun, as we got to plan our dream getaway together as a married couple! We stopped in Athens to enjoy the historical sites and city life, but the majority of our trip was spent in Santorini. We stayed in a luxury villa with the perfect amount of privacy, enjoyed some of the best food and wine we’ve ever had, sailed into the sunset, and took in breathtaking views that we will never forget.
