The Proposal

The proposal was such a huge surprise. We had planned to go look at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve.  The evening came and after walking around the display for several hours, I started to wonder why we were walking in circles. It turns out, he was just nervous and couldn’t work up the nerve to pop the question until we were just about to leave. He asked me to take a picture with him by the light up bridge and just as I went to stand by him he got down on one knee and I instantly cried!

In Preparation

It was eight months of rigorous planning. We knew we wanted to get married in the late summer and it had to be outdoors. At first I wanted to do a destination wedding but after counting up all the people we wanted to invite we decided to get married closer to home. After finding our venue I was able to start planning our rustic/modern wedding. Pinterest was my go to inspiration for everything. We had lots of burgundy and gold everywhere with touches of greenery. We spent so many hours making phone calls to vendors, listening to wedding songs, dancing in the living room, and addressing envelopes. I made ‘to do’ lists for myself every week for things that I needed to get done like calling the florist and visiting the baker shop or the rental company. It was a lot of work but well worth it in the end.

The Big Day

Our big day was nothing short of amazing! Everything came together just as I imagined it. Our families and friends helped with so much of the preparation. My gown was a gorgeous ivory fit and flare with a scrolling floral design all over. David was so handsome in his tux and black cowboy hat. Of course, I started crying a little during my vows and we were both extremely nervous. We entered our reception to the Texas Rangers’ homerun theme song because David is a huge baseball fan. So many of our favorite people were there to celebrate with us and that meant so much to us. Our first dance song was “better today” by Coffey Anderson and when I hear this song now it takes me back to that moment every single time. This is a day we will both remember for the rest of our lives.

The Retreat

David and I spent a whole week in perfect honeymoon bliss. We spent 7 days in Cancun at an adult only resort. We ate, drank, and relaxed by the beach and by the pool. Our honeymoon suite had a swim up area so we could relax in privacy. The room service was constant and the people were so accommodating. We also took a few days to go on adventures! We went zip lining, bike riding, snorkeling, kayaking, exploring caves, riding four wheelers in the jungle and the list goes on. It was so much fun and we can’t wait to go back one day!
