The Proposal

It was a beautiful day when Ryan and I were strolling through Georgetown’s Rose Park and enjoying the cobblestone streets and autumn leaves. I looked over to Ryan getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him. I was so beyond excited that I just exclaimed “YES” without a thought in my mind. Our celebration continued at the Four Seasons in Georgetown where the table was covered with all my favorite flowers and Dom Perignon, my drink of choice. This night meant the absolute world to me especially when Ryan incorporated my mother, who lost her battle to breast cancer, by placing yellow calla lilies everywhere which was my mother’s favorite flower. This night was full of so many amazing surprises especially when Ryan said  “This is not your ring, we are designing the ring of your dreams after brunch. I want it to be perfect for you because you are perfect for me”. It was one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard and to that we toasted to our future together.

In Preparation

My bridesmaids and I all got ready together in a gorgeous historic home in the French Quarter. There were seventeen of us and these were the closest women in my life that I laughed with and told reminisced on stories with while we were getting ready. Ryan and his groomsmen all got straight shaves at a swanky barber shop where they also had a great time. The wonderful ladies from Flawless Bride made all of us look incredible, while the wedding planners took care of everything else. Latrobe’s handled all of our vendors onsite for the wedding such as Luminous Events and Poppy+Mint Flowers who transformed the space into our exact vision. Flower veils, candles, tall bouquets, gold encrusted accents, and votives dressed the tables up perfectly for our special day. One of my favorite parts of our big day was the saved that had a lantern dedicated to my mother and a bouquet of calla lilies. My aunt dressed me in a custom Ines Di Santo gown that she designed for me. It was the perfect gown for me at Bergdorf Goodman Bridal Salon.

The Big Day

For our Big Day, we said our “I dos” in a candlelit ceremony at Latrobe’s gorgeous covered courtyard. Our theme was New Years Eve meets a Gatsbyesque romance. New Years Eve in Nola is all lit up with several Christmas lights. During this time, I feel there is a charming excitement in the brisk air! The bridesmaids walked down the lantern and ivy lined aisle to Ella Fitzgerald’s “Sunday Kind of Love”. Pastor Alonzo Campbell provided the perfect messaging for our wedding. Latrobe’s truly gave our guests a true taste of New Orlean’s with everything. DJ Brice Nice kicked off the party and made sure the dance floor was packed the entire night! There were several special surprises throughout the night such as mirror dancers on platforms, and a champagne clad drag queen who floated across the ballroom serving glasses of champagne to all our guests as they would pluck them off skirt. It was the best, most romantic night of my life.

The Retreat

Our honeymoon to South Africa was absolutely life changing. We started in Cape Town where we explored their incredible coastline, wine tasting in Stellenbosch, and private guides who showed us the best local food, shopping and art galleries, as well as an incredible cheetah and meerkat outreach. We then had our safari trip to Sabi Sands and we stayed at the beautiful Dulini Lodge. This whole experience was nature at its finest from the elephants walking right next to you to watching a baby steenboch take its first steps, and then seeing a pride of lions dine on their fresh catch. We enjoyed cocktails underneath the stars and a traditional African boma. Our favorite part was all the amazing people that touched our hearts and opened our eyes to a whole new world. We truly do love South Africa and cannot wait to go back!
