The First Encounter

The night Mat and I met, he taught me how to swing dance. After a year of building our friendship, he took me on a date to a cute little park in Athens where we picnicked and talked for hours. Two years later, he took me back to the same park. As we were walking down the trail, I saw that the bridge was covered in candles and that’s when I knew! We had made so many memories there throughout our relationship, so it was the perfect place for my best friend to ask me to marry him.

In Preparation

Since we wanted to get married the following summer, we opted for a short engagement of six months. With that tight schedule, we had to make all of the big decisions right away! I wanted our wedding to be casual and for the venue to reflect the simple beauty of nature, so an open field with a beautiful tree and a rustic, elegant stable was exactly what I had envisioned. The majority of our planning happened when Mat and I were not in the same city, but made a point to visit each other often to work on the most important details together. From planning the menu all the way to booking our honeymoon, we savored every part of the process. Choosing not to rush through the busy season and to embrace all of the sweet memories that drew our family and friends closer together was the perfect choice.

The Big Day

If I could relive our wedding day over and over again, I would! It was absolutely perfect. We decided not to do a first look, so the moment Mat turned around and saw me walking down the aisle was emotional for all of us! We kept our ceremony short and sweet, giving us plenty of time for pictures while our guests enjoyed popsicles from King of Pops. The night of celebration would not have been the same without our wonderful family and friends. We were overwhelmed with their love and encouragement and with their energy on the dance floor! The event planners told us they had never seen a full dance floor throughout the entire reception with so many guests of all ages participating. I am convinced we all could have kept dancing for hours after our scheduled exit! Memories of our day will always contain so much joy and gratefulness for everyone who supported us as we started our life together.

The Retreat

The day after our wedding, we flew out to Montego Bay, Jamaica, to spend a week in paradise at Secrets St. James, an all-inclusive resort. It was the first time we felt fully relaxed in months and we loved every moment of our first days as husband and wife. Our favorite activities were relaxing on the beach, snorkeling, kayaking, watching gorgeous sunsets, and trying all of the delicious restaurants. It was a week full of much needed rest and quality time together.
