The First Encounter

Hunter and I were high school sweethearts and had been together for 6 years when he proposed. On December 21, 2015, he took me to my favorite place – the Mountain Chapel at Asbury Hills camp. We worshiped together, he played a song he wrote for me and then he proposed! It was the most beautiful proposal and a total surprise. I’m so glad he got a photographer to hide and capture the moment for us!

In Preparation

Since we are both teachers, we knew we wanted to get married in the summer. I had always pictured an outdoor wedding (even though I knew the weather was a risk in the summer). Once we found the venue, one building over from where my sister got married, things fell into place quickly! Seven months seemed like a long engagement since the preparation went so smoothly. We wanted to incorporate our love for the low country and southern tradition as much as possible, so we went with cotton, sweet grass roses, and lace. A close friend and mentor of Hunter’s officiated and his wife (my mentor) read scripture. Their son, McLendon was our ring bearer and our niece, Mary Dale, was the flower girl. I have a hand-lettering Etsy shop on the side, so I did most of the signs on my own. It was so special to us to be able to add personal touches and share our story with the people closest to us.

The Big Day

Our wedding day was nothing short of perfect. I remember waking up and thinking “this is the day we have been waiting for forever and I don’t want to miss a single moment of it.” Hunter and I wanted to keep things traditional before the ceremony, but we had the chance to hold hands, swap letters and pray together from behind a door. It was one of the most precious moments of the day. About 10 minutes before our outdoor ceremony, a huge storm rolled in and we had to go to plan B. I can’t believe how quickly everyone turned our reception space into a beautiful wedding scene. As hectic as it was the few minutes before the ceremony, it didn’t matter where we were once we saw each other. It was the most perfect day and we were surrounded by love. It went by so fast and we are SO glad we have the pictures to relive it!

The Retreat

We honeymooned in Banff, Canada. It was the perfect mountain vacation for mid-summer. We spent a week exploring mountains, lakes, and amazing restaurants. The Rimrock Resort in Banff was incredible! We visited the hot springs, went horseback riding through the valleys, and took a gondola ride to the most amazing view of the Canadian Rockies. Every day we wish we were back in Banff!
