The Proposal

Reid told me he wanted to throw me a birthday party at Le French Diner, one of our favorite restaurants in Manhattan, with an intimate group of our closest friends. After everyone enjoyed the delicious food, he turned to me and said we should thank everyone for coming. I said a few words and then he continued talking about how we first met, when we were 5, and how we reconnected years later. I had heard him tell this story before, but this time he went further saying how after our first date he called his friend Tom to tell him he just met his wife. At that point I knew. He went on to say how much I meant to him, got on one knee and asked me to marry him in front of our siblings and dearest friends.  It was a magical night and the best birthday present ever.

In Preparation

I actually enjoy event planning, but a destination wedding in Charleston called for help from local experts.  From the moment I spoke with Francesca at Pure Luxe Bride I knew I wanted her to be our planner. Francesca and Blake broke down the entire process into manageable pieces so that neither I or Reid were ever overwhelmed. They spoke to us in depth about our vision and feelings we wanted to achieve for the evening and brought us design concepts and vendors that were exactly what we wanted and in our budget. The most important part is that the concept we agreed upon was exactly what they delivered in the end and they did it all with a smile.

The Big Day

There were so many amazing moments that went into making this the most amazing day. I was excited and nervous all at the same time, but being surrounded by my closest friends, sisters, and my mom helped me enjoy each moment. We all had our hair and makeup done together at The Dewberry Hotel. Reid and I decided to do first looks, and it’s one of the best decisions we made. Reid and I got to have our own private moment and any day-of-jitters melted away.  Our ceremony was officiated by one of Reid’s best friends and my Brother-in-law which made it extra special.  He took the time to speak to our family and friends and really personalized the ceremony. Having my dad walk me down the aisle and seeing Reid at the other end was a moment I’ll keep with me forever. We decided to write our own vows and I am glad we did.  Reading my own words and expressing my love for Reid for all to hear was priceless. Hearing Reid speak his vows was even more special. From that moment on, Reid and I just wanted to have fun with all of our amazing guests who traveled from all over to be there. The food was delicious, and there wasn’t a guest sitting down while the music was going.  I have to give a special mention to my sister, and maid-of-honor, who absolutely killed it with her toast. She had everyone mesmerized, hanging on to her every word. In the end, everyone we spoke to said it was one of the best weddings they had ever attended. Reid and I just wanted everyone to have a fantastic time, and we are so thankful to everyone who made that happen.

The Retreat

We decided to do a week in The Bahamas for our Honeymoon. We stayed at The Cove Atlantis. It was heaven just spending quality time relaxing with each other. I think the first day or so we spent hours talking about our favorite parts of the wedding weekend and looking at pictures people had sent us. We were both getting a kick out of saying “husband” and “wife” as we enjoyed exploring the island, lying on the beach, and beginning this new chapter of our lives.
