The First Encounter

Jonathan & I met through a dating app called OKCupid, and after a couple of months of chatting, I was starting to think that he was never going to ask me out! But he finally worked up the courage to ask me on our first date and man, am I glad he did! Jonathan made reservations at a little Italian restaurant, which we can now see from our balcony, and afterward we went to see the Dark Knight. I could tell Jonathan was extremely nervous because he was red in the face the entire date (and the next couple of months)!

In Preparation

We started planning the day after the proposal! The next morning, we went to Barnes & Noble and we decided to swing by the Starbucks inside. I asked the barista to write “Fiancée” on my cup so that we could get some cute pictures, but she gave me a strange look. I though it was odd that she didn’t even congratulate us, but as we were picking up some bridal magazines, I heard her yelling “Beyoncé!” Ha! After gathering some inspiration and a general idea of when we wanted to get married, we began interviewing wedding planners and nailed down a venue. From there, everything else fell into place. Brides, enjoy the planning process! It can be stressful, but it can also be lots of fun so it’s important not to let the small things affect your relationship. We found out months before our wedding that our wedding planner was not only pregnant, but also due on our wedding day! Thankfully, we had used a lot of time and effort to curate the perfect wedding team and everything went off without a hitch.

The Big Day

After planning for nearly a year and a half, we were so excited to see all of the little details come together so beautifully! We had spent months planning everything from which songs I’d walk down the aisle to, to what kind of items to include in our welcome baskets, to what kind of late night bites we’d offer our guests. We even took dance lessons for our first dance! So on the day of, it was very important to us to just relax and enjoy being in the moment. We were surrounded by all of our closest friends and family, and we had to trust that our amazing team would take care of any day-of hiccups. I’m so thankful for Jonathan’s input throughout the process; it made our wedding feel like a reflection of us.

The Retreat

After the wedding, we took a much needed two-week honeymoon through Europe. We went to Paris, Florence, Rome, and the Amalfi Coast. Because this was our first big trip together, we went hard. We stayed in some of the nicest resorts across Europe, including VSM – where Kim Kardashian spent the night before marrying Kanye West. We had a private tour of Versailles, we chartered a private boat from Positano to Capri, we scheduled in-room massages, and Jonathan even surprised me with a sunrise photoshoot in front of the Eiffel Tower! Since the wedding, we’ve has a few small things to wrap up: framing photos, mailing thank you cards, and selecting photos for our photo album. We still haven’t gotten around to getting copies of our marriage certificate, changing my name, etc. But we’ll get there eventually! Right now we’re enjoying being newlyweds and spending a lot more time together. It’s crazy how much free time we have now that we don’t have wedding planning meetings every weekend!
