The First Encounter

Dillon and I take a yearly ski trip to Snowshoe Mountain in WV with a group of our closest friends. We learned to ski together when we first started dating and this trip had easily become our favorite vacation. On the last day of our trip we split up to have a boys/girls ski day. After riding up to “ top of the world” (a lodge at Snowshoe) Dillon had all of our friends lined up as soon as I got off of the lift and he was at the end on one knee. I was shaking so badly that I didn’t think I could ski back down the slopes. We finished our night celebrating with all of our friends and champagne to thaw us out!

In Preparation

I am a detail-oriented girl, so throughout my wedding planning process I became fixated on the little things and gave no thought to the larger items. I knew I wanted a modern twist on a rustic theme. I loved the idea of mixing old with new. I collected antique vases to mix with geometric planters. I wanted fabric garland but with modern prints. I began collecting things from thrift stores, sale racks and yard sales while always keeping my vision in mind. I booked local vendors who I already knew throughout the community. It made the planning process much more enjoyable to do it with people who knew Dillon and me and had our best interests at heart.

The Big Day

The morning had the smell of rain in the air and I tried my best to not overthink it as I wanted everything outside. My ceremony took place creek-side at The Mill surrounded by our closest family and friends. The rain held off just long enough for us to say “I do,” then the lightest sprinkles began to fall. All of our tables were outside, but the guys moved everything inside of the mill so quickly you would have thought it was set up that way all along. The rain lasted through dinner and then the skies cleared up, allowing us to dance the night away under the stars.

The Retreat

For our Honeymoon, we didn’t want to commit to a strict itinerary so we could just go with the flow. We decided to get a condo on the island of St. Thomas and rented a jeep to go explore. Our condo was the perfect spot to snorkel just off Sapphire Beach, so we found ourselves beginning and ending our days with just that. We chartered a sail boat and went to St. John for part of the trip and snorkeled with Sea Turtles and explored the coral reef. Our favorite part of the honeymoon was settling in at night on our balcony and watching the cruise ships leave the port. Anytime we see a cruise ship from afar we think of our honeymoon.
