The Proposal

As my college graduation present, my dad took Nick and me to Rome for a week. One night, Nick and I went to dinner at the Hotel Minerva Roof Garden, which is next to the Pantheon. Nick squeezed my hand on our walk to the restaurant, and I realized I wasn’t wearing my promise ring. During dinner, we got to watch the sunset over the rooftops of Rome, and we couldn’t stop smiling. Before dessert came, Nick said, “I’m actually glad you didn’t wear your promise ring tonight…” then proposed in Italian. It was a dreamlike, amazing night.

In Preparation

As a girl who loves all things wedding planning, the planning was a lot of fun! Because we wanted to wait to get married until after I finished grad school, we had a little over two years to plan, which significantly decreased any potential stress. Soon after our engagement in Italy, something clicked about having an Italian-themed wedding. I wanted a wine-red color palette with olive leaf greenery and other pops of Italy and our personalities. For example, we planned to incorporate Nick’s professional wrestling into the groom’s cake design and wedding party entrances, and we put vegetables into the centerpieces as a nod to my dietitian profession. Lesa Neff, our event planner from The Bridge Building, was also very helpful with vendor selection, wedding design, and organization. Overall, it was really gratifying to see my Pinterest board and our ideas come to life.

The Big Day

I started our big day with a bridal brunch then hair and makeup at the hotel. After, we headed to The Bridge Building to get dressed and for pictures. Nick and I had our first look on the waterfront with the beautiful Nashville skyline behind us. We couldn’t stop smiling once again. After taking pictures on the bridge, we headed to the Cathedral of the Incarnation, which resembles a typical Roman basilica. I couldn’t make it down the aisle without crying because my groom-to-be was in tears! We officially become husband and wife, and it was the happiest we’ve been. We headed back to the Bridge Building for the reception, and it was unreal to see all the Tuscan-inspired décor and our initials shining on the bridge. We dined on delicious Italian food and danced the entire night away on the rooftop overlooking Nashville. A perfect day we’ll never forget.

The Retreat

We honeymooned at Excellence Riviera Cancun in Puerto Morelos, Mexico, which was right outside of Cancun. We were looking for an all-inclusive, adults-only resort, and Excellence delivered. The activities were countless: nightly entertainment, a mixology class, cooking classes, water sports, and so much more. Our favorite parts were the champagne breakfast in bed and the incredibly relaxing spa — highly recommend the couples massage with the aqua spa circuit! We can’t wait to go back for an anniversary trip in the future.
