Raleigh Anne Blank & John William Gray
Sep 9, 2017
Nashville , Tennessee
We’d been dating long-distance/cross-country and had just returned to San Francisco from Thanksgiving in Cleveland with John’s family when he asked me by writing a letter to my father, who passed when I was little, asking for his blessing. Come to find he had also asked my Mom for the same at her favorite burger joint in October. We celebrated that evening with some of our best friends at our favorite SF spot and continued toasting at the Panthers/Raiders game on Sunday.
Nashville means so much to me, and luckily, to my husband as well. Incorporating Southern hospitality to share with our list which was mainly out of town guests, way paramount. From the Save the Date to the welcome bags and beyond, no detail was too small, mainly due to my Mom’s amazing way of making everyone feel welcome at all times. The groom had a hand in everything too, requesting “strong hedge game” aka lots of boxwoods and greenery for the weekend, not to mention a great band, food and beverage.
The Big Day
Everyone says it’s a blur; and that’s true – but thankfully we slowed down the weekend by hosting the rehearsal dinner on Thursday, a pool party and Welcome Party thrown by dear friends Friday and of course the ceremony and reception Saturday. There are so many memories: from the ushers who represented dear male friends standing in for my Dad, to getting ready with the bridesmaids or my Mom fastening my veil. But I can vividly remember taking a deep breath before I walked the aisle alone. The minute the doors opened and I locked eyes with John I couldn’t get to him fast enough. The ceremony was perfection and the rest of the evening spent with a room full of so many people we love who made such an effort to join us. Exiting by sparklers and with a jump in the pool capped off everything before the party went well into the night at what was Paradise Park Honkytonk.
We both continue to travel a great deal for work so we took a few days following the ceremony at Blackberry Farm, delaying our longer trip to London, South Africa and Dubai over the holidays. If you can’t be with your family for your first Christmas, being with friends like family is ideal. We spent Christmas day with dear friends in London before embarking on a South African Safari, travel to the Cape Town winelands and a brief stint in Dubai before returning back to NYC and Charlotte. Having dated long distance, our honeymoon was the longest consecutive amount of time we’d spent together – it was perfect and we were so grateful to get the time and opportunity.
