The Proposal

We drove to Franklin, Tennessee from New York to visit Scott’s parents and grandparents. We brought our dog, Millie, along so they could meet her for the first time. Scott had planned to propose while we were visiting, and anxiously hid the ring inside his boot the entire drive down. Once we arrived we first went to brunch with Scott’s grandparents, and afterwards went to his parents home. While we were in their living room, Scott asked me to close my eyes and the next thing I know he is down on one knee asking me to marry him. Of course, I said yes! I was so excited to see it was the ring I was hoping for.

In Preparation

The preparation consisted of a lot of Etsying, DIYing, and Michaels visits. The majority of the wedding was DIY, so I spent my time creating and planning all of the small details. There may have been a few hot glue gun burns along the way. I made the cake completely from scratch, and decorated it myself. I hand wrote all of the animal facts attached to the small animal figurines and spray painted them all gold, plus, I created and designed all of the stationary. I had gold spray paint, glue, and paper everywhere for weeks. I loved the idea of getting married at the zoo, and was excited about the carousel, animals, and ceremony location behind the Grassmere Historic Home. Everything turned out so beautiful.

The Big Day

We got married outside at The Nashville Zoo, and it was absolutely beautiful. The weather was predicting thunderstorms leading up to our big day, but thankfully, it ended up being gorgeous outside. We began our day by getting ready at The Hermitage Hotel, where we also had our first look. We then made our way to the Nashville Zoo where we said our “I Do’s” behind the Grassmere Historic Home. We were surrounded by our closest family and friends, and everything turned out wonderful. I had a great support system on my wedding day, which allowed me to feel relaxed and focused on enjoying my day. I especially loved my photographer because she took the time to make sure every detail was captured and kept the day on track. If I had to give one piece of advise to future brides, it’s to stand your ground, and never let anyone persuade you into making a decision you’re not happy with.

The Retreat

We had the best Honeymoon! We went to Hawaii and stayed at Disney’s Aulani and it was magical. They had an amazing spa and adults only infinity hot tubs that overlooked the ocean. Plus, the food was amazing. Literally the best vacation ever. Not to mention how awesome the rest of the island was. We got to zip-line, ATV, luau with the locals at the Polynesian Cultural Center, and tour the island by helicopter. I’m pushing to go back soon.
