The Proposal

Matt and I had planned a trip to Europe to visit a friend of mine. Our first stop was Paris and a few days in, Matt surprised me with a photoshoot throughout the city. We tried to take the metro to meet our photographer but when we couldn’t figure it out we decided to walk in the rain instead. We started at Pont de Bir-Hakeim, a beautiful bridge with a great view of the Eiffel Tower. I walked over to look at the Seine River and when I turned around Matt was down on one knee asking me to marry him!

In Preparation

We knew we wanted a destination wedding and found the most perfect venue in the mountains of North Carolina. We fell in love with Overlook Barn the second we toured the location which set all of our planning into motion. Looking back, we should have hired a wedding planner to help us out but we took on a lot of the tasks ourselves with the help of our friends and family. It was such a fun and exciting time which heavily outweighed the stress of trying to make sure everything would be perfect. We felt so loved and supported the entire time!

The Big Day

The entire wedding party stayed at a giant cabin just fifteen minutes from the venue which led to the most fun sleepover the night before the wedding. In the morning, all the girls gathered together outside to grab breakfast and then to meet the hair and makeup team. We spent the larger part of the day reminiscing about our friendships, making mimosas, laughing, and singing and dancing to all sorts of music. I shared a first look with Matt before the ceremony so we could spend some quiet time together before the beautiful chaos awaiting us. Right before the wedding party lined up to walk the aisle, all my bridesmaids and mother circled around me to lift Matt and I and our marriage in prayer. It was a super sweet moment and the love I felt carried all into the night as Matt and I became husband and wife!

The Retreat

We stayed at the cutest cabin in the mountains for a few days as a mini-honeymoon and attended the Woolly Worm festival in Banner Elk. Six months later, we went on our main honeymoon to Asia. We started in Hong Kong and visited Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Bali, Singapore, and Beijing. We had the time of our lives trekking through rice terraces, walking in the forest with rescued elephants, hiking the Great Wall, going to Disney, seeing the most beautiful sunsets, playing with monkeys, and just spending time together as Mr. and Mrs. Tyo!
