The Proposal

Tatum has always had a huge love for Christmas. The first time Tatum and Rob met was when Rob stopped by her house to say hello to some friends that were (not so secretively) trying to set them up. They got to know each other over dinners out and long talks on the back porch afterwards. Rob asked Tatum to be his girlfriend on that back porch, their first kiss was in her living room, and he thought that home would also be the perfect place to propose.  He lit the candles inside the house, dressed their dog, Lola, up in a Santa Claus outfit, turned on the fire place, had Christmas music playing, poured her a glass of wine, and left a note on the door for her to find when she got home telling her to put everything down and meet him by the fire. Upon arriving, she did just that, but was surprised to find Rob wasn’t at the fireplace. This led her to look out back. She opened the door to find a fire in the fire pit with two chairs and a beautiful Christmas tree waiting for her. As she approached the tree, not knowing exactly what as happening, Rob stepped out from behind the tree dressed in a suit. He immediately embraced her, told her of all he wonderful memories they’d made together at that house and what they meant to him, what she meant to him, and then got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She, of course, said yes!

In Preparation

Tatum grew up going to Lake Martin with her family and friends. When she and Rob started discussing marriage, they’d wondered where they might get married one day and wanted it to be somewhere they could continue visiting and building memories. They thought about having the ceremony and reception in Birmingham, as it would be more convenient for everyone to travel to, but the lake held such a dear place in their hearts as many of their relationship milestones occurred at Lake Martin. After visiting The Stables at Russell Lands, seeing the beautiful views, the animals, etc, there was no other choice. It is a place that they always visit when going back to the lake, a place where they can have dinner, breakfast, ride horses, hike… and now, the place where they got married.

The Big Day

“Our wedding day was one of the most peaceful days I have ever experienced. I felt so at ease being in our favorite place and knowing I was marrying my best friend that day. It was everything I could have hoped. From the flowers, to the venue, to our wonderful planners who made everything run so smoothly. We loved our photographer and videographers who guided us along the way as well and captured these moments which we’ll remember forever. The band was unreal, the food was delicious, and the flowers were absolutely beautiful. We left that night totally drenched which shows just how great of a time we had with all of our family and friends. Nothing could beat that day. ” – Tatum

“We loved everything about our wedding weekend. It felt like being home getting married at the lake and having our rehearsal dinner at the house with our family and friends. ” – Rob

The Retreat

The honeymoon was a trip of a lifetime, it was a trip to Bora Bora, French Polynesia. We stayed at the Intercontinental Thalasso Spa resort and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Not only does Bora Bora have the most beautiful water and breathtaking views, but it also has so much U.S. history which I didn’t know before as the United States set up a refueling station on the island of Bora Bora for the ships that would be crossing the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Our week in Bora Bora was a dream. From the over water bungalows, to the food, and the excursions… we had such an amazing time. Our first day there, we walked to the backside of the resort where we found the shoreline and saw humpback whales swimming with some dolphins. It was incredible. In the mornings, we’d wake up really early to go to the shoreline for sunrise, and one evening we took the shuttle boat to the main island for happy hour and to watch the sunset. Our photos from this trip are incredible. We went snorkeling with stingrays, sharks, and fish of all kinds. We also took a seadoo tour around the island which was amazing as there was a picnic in the middle of the tour. Here we got to try Bora Bora’s green grapefruit which was out of this world, and Rob learned out to peel and crack a coconut from the tree. Needless to say, it was an amazing trip and a trip of a lifetime. I’m so glad that we got to go there together for our honeymoon.
