The First Encounter

My family has owned property in the beautiful mountains of Botetourt County, Virginia since I was a little girl. It remains my favorite place on Earth, and luckily, Tyler understands that. I am one of three children, and we all live in different states, so it is not often that we are all together in one place at the same time. One cold weekend in November, my entire family was getting together on the mountain for a weekend away. It was during this weekend, at my favorite spot on the mountain, that Tyler asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. It was simple, and so meaningful. Without a doubt, better than I could have ever imagined it.

In Preparation

Tyler and I are both in professional graduate school. I am completing my medical degree, while he completes his law degree. Needless to say, I knew I would need an adequate amount of time to plan the wedding of my dreams while becoming a physician. I always knew I wanted to have a fall wedding, so we chose to give ourselves almost a full two years to plan our wedding. The Greenbrier has always held such a special place in the heart of my family. My Dad gave his first big speech at a coal convention in the ballroom in which we had our ceremony. My brother proposed to his wife on the grounds. I have countless memories of laughs and love with my mother and grandmother in the rooms in which I spent the most important day of my life. Luckily, our September weekend was available, and The Greenbrier makes the process so easy. We scheduled two planning meetings with my wedding planner and the wedding team to get everything accomplished. It was a no stress environment, and it was the best decision we could have made. Maren and her staff were quick to answer any question, whether big or small, and allow me independence and help in planning our perfect day.

The Big Day

The morning of the wedding, I was at such peace. In fact, my wedding planner was somewhat amazed at how calm I was. I have never been more content in my life. The entire day was full of such joy and love. Tyler spent the morning skeet shooting at the sporting club, while my girls and I spent the morning relaxing and getting ready. After much consideration (and breaking some traditional ideas), we decided to do a first look. I will never regret that decision. I had over an hour just to be with my soon to be husband, and that was such special time that means so much to the both of us. Our flower girls and ring bearer stole the show, as we all knew they would. We spent the day laughing with our family and friends, praying over our new marriage, soaking up every moment and falling more in love with each other. Twenty years from now, we will look back on our wedding day in complete awe of the love shown by our families and friends as we joined our life together and created the foundation of our family.

The Retreat

As I mentioned before, we are both in professional school, so we had to postpone our honeymoon until the holiday season. Tyler brings me out of my comfort zone, and I would definitely label us as an adventurous couple. Looking for a new adventure, we decided to spend a week in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at the Teton Mountain Lodge and Spa. We spent the week learning to ski on Rendezvous Mountain in Teton Village, snowmobiling through the Grand Teton National Park to a granite hot springs, dog-sledding through the Continental Divide, relaxing by a fire on the coldest nights and spending our first Christmas morning as a married couple eating waffles at 10,450 ft elevation overlooking the Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole.
