Built in 1840, Heartwood Hall is a grand, historic home located on 25 wooded acres east of Memphis. Originally part of a 5,000 acre plantation, Heartwood Hall and a similar estate were built as wedding gifts for the Miller family daughters. While the other estate was burned to the ground during the Civil War, Union soldiers occupied Heartwood Hall as a hospital. John and Denise Suthoff bought the house 8 years ago and have added on an additional 3,500 square feet to the residence for a total of 7,000 square feet. They also added a gourmet kitchen, courtyard, pool area, and joined the servant houses scattered around the property to create an 1,800 square foot guest house updated with modern amenities located at the back of the property.
Since hosting their niece’s wedding on the property, the Suthoff’s have continued to use Heartwood Hall as an event space. The front lawn is the ideal spot for your ceremony with the antebellum estate as the backdrop. Make a grand entrance down the brick path as your groom and wedding party await you on the front porch. After the ceremony, you and your guests can retire to the courtyard and pool area for an intimate reception. Surrounded by roses, azaleas, crepe myrtles and a boxwood hedge, the formal Four Seasons garden is another beautiful outdoor ceremony option. Accommodating up to 300 guests, the garden is perfect for larger ceremonies. A rustic cabin on the property is a wonderful spot for cocktails or even a small ceremony, while a nearby lake offers yet another outdoor ceremony option for up to 300 guests. Heartwood Hall’s recently renovated barn turns into an elegant reception site for you and your guests to celebrate. With on-site catering and event planners, Heartwood Hall hosts unforgettable weddings.
