Celebrating Black History Month With Phillip Ashley Chocolates phillip ashley ()

In honor of Black History Month, Southern Bride highlights an inspiring entrepreneur, Memphis native, and a James Beard Foundation Semi-Finalist, Phillip Ashley Rix, the mastermind behind Phillip Ashley Chocolates. His remarkable success story is driven by a deep passion for chocolate and a strong sense of community.

Before diving into the world of artisanal chocolate, Phillip had a successful career as a sales executive. Longing to create innovative chocolate flavors that were unlike anything else on the market, Phillip took a leap of faith in 2012 by selling his delectable creations from the trunk of his car at pop-up shops and charity events.

By 2013, Phillip had managed to secure insurance companies as his clients, which allowed him to expand his business, reach new clientele and form a partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where his mouth watering chocolates became the centerpiece of their fundraisers.

Word of Phillip’s talent reached all the way to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, California, where celebrities at the 2016 Grammy Awards had the privilege of indulging in the luxurious taste of Phillip Ashley Chocolates. With time, Phillip’s clientele grew to include a host of celebrities, and his chocolates even made it onto Oprah’s coveted Favorite Things 2020 list, resulting in his chocolate line being carried by renowned luxury retailer, Neiman Marcus.

Inspired by his beloved hometown of Memphis and his deep appreciation for music and food, Phillip continuously pushes the boundaries of creativity, resulting in avant-garde chocolate creations that tantalize the senses and leave a lasting impression.

Despite his growing fame and success Phillip remains committed to his roots and community. His business model proudly stands as a small-minority owned enterprise, always seeking opportunities to give back to the community that has supported him throughout his journey. Our editor has been fortunate enough to savor Phillip’s exquisite chocolates at numerous fundraisers, where the chocolate samples were served with a delightful bourbon chaser, elevating the indulgence.
