The Proposal
Brooke Kirkpatrick and Timothy Slezak’s Alabama Military-Style wedding in the early summer of 2021 was the beginning chapter of their happily ever after as husband and wife.
On a particularly hot summer day, Brooke was on campus at Auburn University prepping for a photo shoot to promote her small retail business, Magnolia James Boutique, a local, upscale women’s clothing boutique. Timothy saw this as the perfect opportunity to propose!
As Brooke so eloquently put it, “my husband totally crashed the photo shoot”, and ‘it was the sweetest moment.” Not only did her parents get to witness the entire proposal, but so did Brooke’s employees and friends. After the surprise engagement, everyone gathered at the Collegiate Hotel for celebratory drinks. Brooke and Timothy then enjoyed a private dinner for two at their favorite restaurant in the city.
In Preparation
Brooke and Timothy had roughly eleven months to plan their wedding, and the first item on their checklist was selecting an event planner. They hired Make it Perfect Events, who understood their wedding day vision and helped kick off the start of the planning process. The three of them had countless meetings on décor, color scheme, and overall theme.
Within a month, the location, photographer, vendors, and other significant decisions fell into place. Putting the vendor team together was one of Brooke’s favorite parts of planning. Though preparing for a wedding while simultaneously running a small business was challenging, it was all worth it.
The Big Day
The couple felt beyond loved on the “most magical day of their lives.” The big day began early with hair and makeup for the bride and bridesmaids. Brooke had so much fun spending time with her girl squad leading up to the walk down the aisle. Just past the 2 o’clock hour, Brooke and her squad took photos and primped Brooke for the “first look” with Timothy. Their videographer was able to capture this special moment beautifully, and included it in their wedding video.
In a traditional military ceremony, the pair said “I do” under a beautiful arbor and lush trees, honoring the groom’s career and service. Brooke and Timothy were so proud to confess their love before friends and family from near and far. Following the ceremony, a lively reception ensued with a grand cake cutting, champagne flowing, and an evening of dancing.
The Retreat
The newlyweds honeymooned in the U.S. at the Ritz Carlton South Beach in Miami, Florida. They enjoyed gorgeous weather, relaxing beachside, excursions to the Everglades and Biscayne Baye, and a city tour around Little Havana.
Brooke and Timothy recommend visiting Miami to those who consider themselves ‘foodies’ as everywhere they dined was incredible! Two of their favorite dinner experiences included the Versace Mansion and Joe’s Stone Crab. Both places offer entirely different dishes and vibes but are both staples in the Miami area.
