The Proposal
Gil and one of his friends went to “play golf” that day at Ross Bridge and told me that my friend and I could come meet them for dinner when they finished playing. Around dinner time, my friend and I arrived only to hop on a golf cart and start driving through the course. I knew at this point, we were probably not going to dinner! On the golf course, Gil set up pictures of us and a spot for us to talk and pray together. He wrote me the sweetest letter and had a Bible engraved with my new name. We then went to my sister’s house where all of our closest friends and family were there to celebrate!
In Preparation
I absolutely loved wedding planning! From the beginning, I kept in mind that we were preparing for a worship service more than anything. The day after Gil and I got engaged, we went to Bustle in Homewood, Alabama where I found my dream dress. One thing we knew for sure is that we wanted Heather Durham as our photographer—she made us feel like we were her only couple getting married and that she genuinely cared for our day as her own. One year later I still feel like we’re best friends. We also worked with Julia from Mariee Ami for planning the month of the wedding, and she was fabulous. She created a schedule specifically for our day and went above and beyond in everything. She is the reason the day ran smoothly and is truly a professional at what she does.
The Big Day
This was absolutely the best day! The girls got ready at my sister’s house while the boys started the morning at Top Golf. My favorite part of the day was our first look where Gil and I got to share a moment just the two of us before the craziness began. It was truly a treasured moment. Our wedding ceremony was at Mountain Brook Community Church. It was the sweetest worship service! After the ceremony, we danced the night away at Vestavia Country Club with our amazing band, City Heat. It was so surreal to not only have the time of my life dancing with my new husband, but also to be surrounded by all of our best friends and family celebrating in one place!
The Retreat
Bright and early Sunday morning, Gil and I hopped on a plane and headed to Whitehouse, Jamaica. We spent the week at the Sandals Southcoast Resort. They had excellent service, food, and we were able to relax, rejuvenate, and reflect on the most fun day of our lives. We spent most of the week relaxing on the beach, but also enjoyed a sunset catamaran cruise. It was more of a quiet resort which we loved—we both agreed that Whitehouse is a hidden gem!
