The Proposal
Courtney and John’s love story began during their senior year of college when mutual friends brought them together. John, a University of Tennessee alum, met Courtney, a Miami University student, through a serendipitous series of connections. After meeting in college, their relationship blossomed, leading to an unforgettable proposal while visiting Courtney’s hometown of Cincinnati for a friend’s Christmas party, John seized the perfect opportunity to propose. Having purchased the ring several months earlier, he orchestrated a plan with Courtney’s friend to propose at Ault Park and even arranged for a photographer to capture the moment. Under the pretense of heading to brunch at the Netherland Plaza, John drove to the park and proposed under the charming pavilion. Fortunately, the freezing rain held off just long enough for the proposal and subsequent pictures. Afterward, the couple met Courtney’s family at one of their favorite restaurants, E+O Kitchen, for a celebratory lunch.
Reflecting on the day, John thought the entire event was a huge surprise. However, Courtney later revealed that she had known about the proposal a week in advance, thanks to John’s continuous reminders for her to get her nails done.
In Preparation
As they planned the wedding, Courtney and John envisioned a day that perfectly captured their timeless love and Southern charm. Their wedding celebration was meticulously planned, with every detail reflecting their style and elegance. “We wanted our wedding to embody our love for classic elegance with a touch of southern romance,” Courtney shared. The Enchanted Florist created breathtaking floral arrangements featuring white garden roses and delicate blue accents, adding a touch of timeless beauty to their special day. Meanwhile, 8 Lavender Lane Catering expertly crafted an exquisite four-tiered cake adorned with hand-piped monograms and fresh flowers, exuding classic sophistication.
The Big Day
The much-anticipated wedding day arrived, with the weather in Nashville surprisingly mild for June, setting the stage for a picture-perfect day. Courtney and her bridesmaids enjoyed a leisurely morning at Riverwood Mansion as they prepared for the festivities ahead. “I was nervous, excited, and just ready to marry my best friend” Courtney revealed. Sara Morrison with Sara Grace Photography beautifully captured the essence of the day, from the bride’s morning preparations to the emotional ceremony and joyous reception.
With the support of Southern Events Rental Company and the guidance of Morgan Murphy Ernst from Riverwood Mansion, every aspect of the day came together seamlessly. The church service at Woodmont Christian Church was a moving experience, with the beautiful surroundings providing a stunning backdrop as Courtney walked down the aisle to the stirring melody of “Highland Cathedral”, played by talented musicians Michael Graham and Liana Alpino.
The evening continued with a lively reception, featuring a sensational performance by the For a Good Time Call band and a delightful sparkler send-off, creating a truly magical atmosphere. Their wedding photographer, Sara Morrison reminisced, “From the first dances to all the fun at the reception, Courtney and John let me steal them away for some fun, sultry evening shots in Courtney’s reception dress. Every reception is special, however, with the amazing band and the gorgeous sparkler send-off, this beautiful day was perfect.”
The Retreat
Following their enchanting wedding day, Courtney and John embarked on a dreamy honeymoon in St. Lucia at Sandals Regency La Toc. Amidst the lush, tropical landscape, they reveled in the bliss of newlywed life, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
