The Proposal

Kelsey had a feeling the proposal was coming. She had helped design the ring herself, after they stumbled upon the perfect diamond together — completely by chance — on a visit to Charleston, South Carolina a few months prior. So when they headed to Seattle for a long weekend with Michael’s college friend and his wife, Kelsey quietly wondered if that might be the moment. After a full day hiking beautiful trails with overlook after overlook and no question popped, she let the thought go.

On their last morning, their friend was unusually insistent — hungover and all — that Kelsey and Michael take a walk through one of his favorite parks. Kelsey didn’t think much of it. When she spotted Michael carrying a cooler, she assumed he’d packed breakfast for the top. Practical. Sweet, even.

When they reached the overlook with sweeping views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, Michael gently pulled Kelsey aside to “show her a better view.” And that’s when she knew. The moment Kelsey said yes, she heard it: the unmistakable pop of a champagne bottle. The cooler wasn’t breakfast at all — it was bubbles, ready and waiting for all four of them to toast together. It was spontaneous, joyful, and perfectly “them.” The kind of proposal that could only have been theirs.

In Preparation

Choosing a venue was less a search and more a homecoming. Springdale Hall Club in Camden, South Carolina is a place woven deeply into Michael’s family history — his great-grandparents were among the club’s founding members, and generations of holidays and family celebrations have taken place within its walls. It is a quintessentially Southern members’ club, charming and unhurried, with cottages nestled on the property and a golf course rolling out beyond. The kind of place that already feels like family before you’ve said a word.

From the start, Kelsey wanted their wedding to embody true Southern hospitality – beautiful and elegant, but never stuffy. Warm and welcoming for every guest, no matter where they’d traveled from. Kelsey never visited another venue. Springdale Hall wasn’t just a backdrop for their wedding day; it was a place already woven into their life together, and somewhere they’ll return to for decades to come.

The club became Kelsey’s creative muse. Kelsey’s background is in interior design, and Springdale Hall’s Ralph Lauren-inspired club rooms, lush floral wallpapers, sweeping pine trees, and bright pink azaleas in bloom guided every design decision. She drew inspiration from vintage illustrated travel postcards that nostalgic, hand-rendered “Greetings from…” aesthetic and built their entire invitation suite from scratch. She even handcrafted lampshades from coordinating textiles to dress the club’s outdoor table lamps. Every detail was a labor of love, and a way of honoring the journey Kelsey and Michael were beginning together.

Their florists, Grove Florals, shifted Kelsey’s vision in the most wonderful way. She had originally planned a restrained palette of greens and whites. But when they pointed to the azaleas blooming across the property and suggested bringing that pink in, everything opened up. Fuchsia and punchy color found their way into the invitations, the tent around the band, and room-by-room floral arrangements designed to feel native to each space, not dropped in from a theme. Parrot tulips, rich reds, and dramatic massed blooms created striking moments without overwhelming the rooms. Kelsey’s bouquet was one of her favorite surprises of the design process – pink hyacinth and fuchsia calla lilies tied with a red ribbon. Unexpected and joyful.

The Big Day

The morning began the way Kelsey hoped the whole day would feel – easy and full of joy. Rather than the traditional hair-and-makeup setup crammed into one room, Kelsey booked blowout appointments at a local salon for her whole group: her best friend and officiant, her sister-in-law, her and Michaels’ mothers, Michael’s sisters, and her ten-year-old niece. Having her hair washed on her wedding morning, no rushing, no countdown clock, turned out to be one of the loveliest little gifts of the day. From there, a close friend did their makeup at Michael’s mother’s home – comfortable, unhurried, surrounded by the women Kelsey loves most.

When they arrived at Springdale Hall, Kelsey did what any interior designer would do: she got to work. Her handcrafted lampshades needed placing just so, tablecloths needed straightening, and a chair here or there needed moving by exactly the right number of inches. Kelsey’s mom (also an interior designer) was right there beside her. It was one of Kelsey’s favorite quiet moments of the entire day. The calm before the beautiful chaos of getting into her dress, in a tiny bathroom lined with the most glorious pink floral wallpaper, all of them crowded in together, laughing.

The ceremony took place on the front lawn. Kelsey walked down the aisle to bagpipes (an homage to her family’s heritage) with their dogs Oliver & Cooper leading the way ahead of her. Kelsey also ducked behind the wedding cake table to stay out of site from Michael and while crouched down, waved over a familiar waiter (who has been part of Springdale Hall’s Christmas and Thanksgiving tables for years) and had him pour her a quick shot of tequila. He smiled knowingly and obliged without a word. It was the most perfectly “Kelsey” moment of the day.

The most tender moment came just after the ceremony. Kelsey’s brother, her only sibling, a Navy pilot deployed aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford, had been unable to attend due to extended deployment. But when Kelsey walked back up the aisle and her dad came over to show her his phone, there was Kelsey’s brother in his flight suit, having watched every moment on FaceTime without her knowing. Kelsey got to see his face and share a few words with him right after they said their vows. Kelsey will carry that moment with her always.

The reception was cocktail-style – passed hors d’oeuvres, no formal seating, guests flowing freely through the club’s beautiful rooms and outdoor tables. Their Atlanta band kept the energy alive all night, and the guests danced until they couldn’t anymore. Kelsey and Michael’s first dance was to Olivia Dean’s “Dive” – unrehearsed, completely spontaneous, and absolutely perfect. When the evening ended, around forty of their closest friends wandered across the lawn with Kelsey and Michael to their cottage for local pizza, Pittsburgh beers (Iron City & Yuengling), pajamas, and dancing that lasted well into the night. Their dogs curled up beside Kelsey and Michael when they finally went to sleep. The most perfect ending to the most perfect day.

The Retreat

After months of pouring every ounce of creative energy into designing their wedding, Kelsey wanted just one thing for their honeymoon: to give her brain a complete rest and be fully, entirely present with her husband.

Rather than plan an elaborate trip, they newlyweds stayed in South Carolina and rented a beach house on Folly Beach just outside of Charleston. For nearly five days, Kelsey and Michael did absolutely nothing that required effort – waking to the sound of waves, walking the beach with their dogs, playing in the surf, and wandering the little beach town at their own pace. No heels, no itinerary, no agenda.

It was the perfect, unhurried ending to the most beautiful week of their lives – exactly what they needed to slow down, breathe, and reflect before packing up the dogs and heading home to Dallas.
