The Proposal
Stephan proposed during the bible study that we lead together. It just so happens to also be the place we officially met. Stephan always reads the study questions out loud in front of the members of our group and I help facilitate. This particular evening, when Stephan arrived at the last question of the night, he said there was another question he needed to ask and that only I would be able to answer. I knew right then that he was going to ask me to be his wife! After he proposed he played a video of his family welcoming me into their family as they live in South Africa and couldn’t be there in person but wanted to express how happy they were.
In Preparation
I thought a destination wedding in the mountains during Spring would be absolutely lovely, but I also wanted to get married in a church. So I decided to do both. I chose the Southern region of the U.S. because of all the fond memories I have growing up vacationing there. There’s just no other place like it! The wedding planning process was fairly easy because I knew exactly how I wanted our day to look and I also had an incredibly supportive team helping me along the way.
The Big Day
The wedding took place at two very special locations in two different states. Although the ceremony and reception were an hour apart, we knew the drive would be incredibly scenic and figured once our guests saw the venues they wouldn’t mind the distance. Thankfully, we were right! We designed a timeless, elegant and intimate day filled with personalized and high-end details for our guests. Two weeks prior to our wedding, guests received a preview of the weekend via a gift package in the mail including a custom foil & letterpress note, itinerary booklet and gift card for a handcrafted chocolate at the favorite local dessert lounge. All of the preparation began with the design of my dream invitation; and ended with me sitting next to my husband, overlooking our loved ones eating divine cuisine and enjoying being in the presence of one another.
The Retreat
Because we had a destination wedding, we decided that the area we were already in was much too beautiful to leave right away, so we extended our stay at the Biltmore Inn on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. We were blessed with the most perfect weather during our time there. We loved all of the activities in the area that were available to us and were overwhelmed by the natural beauty of the land. One of our favorite nights included a private dinner at the Vanderbilt House. We’re currently planning to go on a safari in South Africa as our second honeymoon!
