The Proposal
With an emerald-cut blue sapphire engagement ring in hand, Mike proposed to me in the same spot where we had our first date: a candle-lit courtyard at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C. To celebrate our new engagement, we spent the special evening walking to all of our favorite D.C. hot spots. The night started with cocktails at the Hay-Adams hotel, and then Mike and I shared our favorite pasta dishes at Filomena’s Ristorante in Georgetown before our night-cap at Mr. Smith’s Piano Bar. The evening ended with an overnight stay at the Rosewood Hotel, and the following day was spent celebrating with our closest friends and family in New York City at The Jane.
In Preparation
From the very start, Mike and I knew exactly what we wanted for our big day–a beautiful ceremony and reception at my childhood home, so our guests could enjoy the views of the horse farm at every turn. We settled on a traditional, yet elegant color palette made up of metallics, green, and white. With help from renowned designer Stiles Colwill, my childhood home was transformed into a magical Midsummer Night’s Dream setting. Twinkling lights draped from trees and across the ceiling of the dinner tent illuminated the atmosphere. With family and friends at the center of planning, no detail was left unturned. Mike’s grandmother’s Penne alla Vodka recipe was even served as the first course.
The Big Day
After days and days of pouring rain leading up to our wedding, the skies cleared up for our pre-wedding festivities. The day before our wedding, we celebrated at Barcocina in the historic district of Fells Point in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Guests mingled and enjoyed delicious food and drinks all while hitting biodegradable fish food golf balls into the Harbor. On Saturday, the fun started with a Water Taxi ride to Under Armour HQ for a workout before saying our “I dos”. Lunch was provided pool-side at the Sagamore Pendry. The sun shone brightly as the guests arrived at the farm for a warm ceremony and festive cocktails. Guests enjoyed dinner and non-stop dancing with incredible music provided by JB Project and Saved by the 90s.
The Retreat
After a magical ceremony and reception, we spent our honeymoon exploring Kenya & Tanzania on a safari. As passionate conservationists, our two weeks were spent visiting some of the most vibrant wildlife sanctuaries, including the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the Mara North Conservancy, the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater. We ended our trip with a visit to Zanzibar’s Stone Town and the Mnemba Island off the northeast coast, where we spent our time scuba diving with sea turtles and relaxing on the white-sand beaches.
