The Proposal
We planned an outing with friends on a beautiful fall day; the girlfriends and I had lunch and shopped, while the guys enjoyed a round of golf. To my complete surprise, the girls drove me to a hiking area, made me exit the car, and gave me a letter from Madison. Winding up a rose-petal-sprinkled, candlelit mountain trail, I found him at the top, overlooking the breathtaking, foliage-covered Arkansas River Valley, down on one knee. The intimate proposal was followed by a celebratory dinner in the wine cellar at Arthur’s Steakhouse, where we were joined by family and friends.
In Preparation
My mother, a designer, and grandmother, an antique collector, were the inspiration for the wedding of my dreams. At times it was difficult to reign in the multitude of details I had envisioned. I wanted to showcase my passion for old world romance and vintage southern charm. When we visited Annesdale Mansion in the heart of Memphis, I was overwhelmed by its majestic beauty. I immediately knew this was the venue for the most incredible day of my life. Being blessed with a supportive family, an outstanding wedding planner, and fantastic team of vendors, my ultimate vision became reality.
The Big Day
We welcomed guests in the 17- year-old Italianate mansion with signature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and the cascading sounds of a harp. The garden ceremony took place at dusk under a canopy of magnolias. On the lawn, antique silk-covered settees created conversation areas under glittering crystal chandeliers nestled among towering trees. Guests served themselves from elegant buffets inside the mansion, and outside on the graceful verandas. In the tent, wine was flowing and the band was rockin’ as we danced the night away. A walkway of sparklers and a 1931 Model A Ford made for the perfect send-off.
The Retreat
We jetted off to French Polynesia for seven nights on the island of Mo’orea. There, wooden boardwalks stretch into the South Pacific, connecting white sand beaches to overwater bungalows. We experienced the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure while sipping cocktails beachside, indulging in couples’ massage, and viewing incredible marine-life by snorkeling, kayaking, and paddle-boarding in the clearest turquoise water we’ve ever seen. Inland, we zip-lined and four-wheeled through the lush island, visited fruit plantations, and saw breathtaking panoramic views from atop Magic Mountain. Other highlights included a Polynesian dance show and romantic private beach dinner by candlelight.
