The Proposal
One late afternoon, James asked Mary Katherine if she’d like to take their dog, Piper, on a walk along the Mississippi River. Walking Piper was one of their favorite things to do together, and James had always imagined an intimate proposal by the water. Despite his best efforts, Mary Katherine felt like relaxing at home that day. James quickly pivoted to plan B as he had planned an engagement party that evening where all their friends and family would be waiting to share in the celebration. James asked Mary Katherine to meet him in the kitchen to share a glass of bubbly from a special bottle of champagne. As soon as he could, James got down on one knee and asked Mary Katherine to marry him. She resounded with an exuberant “yes.”
In Preparation
Mary Katherine and James wanted their wedding day to feel timeless and romantic yet fun with modern touches. The couple enlisted Memphis event planner, Audrey Hurst, to help bring their vision to life and ensure the weekend felt cohesive. Mary Katherine and James wanted a late April wedding and played off the idea of a beautiful spring garden soiree and a color palette of greens, whites, and soft beige, adding hints of blush and coral. A stunning tunnel of gardenias and fairy lights for the reception entrance would be created so guests would feel like they were entering a secret garden. A warm and inviting atmosphere was the goal. Mary Katherine loved creating her custom Anne Barge gown with the local Memphis bridal boutique Maggie Louise.
The Big Day
On the morning of, Mary Katherine gathered with her bridesmaids for brunch, hair, and makeup. The groom and groomsmen savored a hearty lunch on the country club patio. Mary Katherine will forever cherish getting dressed with the help of her mom and grandmother. Having both of them by her side as she stepped into her gown was a moment she had envisioned since she was a little girl. The couple exchanged vows at the Church of the Holy Communion, where Mary Katherine attended grade school. A reception at the University Club of Memphis followed. Guests were greeted with glasses of sparkling rosé, a festive nod to the couple’s last name. Other special touches included a bourbon bar dedicated to all of James’ favorite spirits, cocktail napkins featuring a drawing of their beloved puppy, and a surprise aft er-party with a balloon-filled ceiling, light-up bars, and hats for all. The newlyweds exited the love-filled evening in a vintage Rolls Royce as family and friends threw handfuls of confetti.
The Retreat
The newlyweds chose the tropical Caribbean Island of Antigua for their honeymoon and knew there was only one place to stay: Hermitage Bay Resort. A luxury, 5-star hotel tucked away in a quiet cove with gorgeous views that off ers beachfront or mountainside bungalow accommodations. Mary Katherine and James spent the week enjoying the clear water and pristine sand, tasting various cuisines, and taking excursions like a sunset sail. It was the perfect way to spend their fi rst week as Mr. and Mrs. Rose.
