The Proposal
In May 2025, Tyler had just returned home from a work trip and suggested that they spend the afternoon at Afton Villa Gardens. Olivia had always talked about wanting to visit—even though she had lived in St. Francisville her entire life, she had somehow never been.
Tyler and Olivia walked through the gardens, taking their time and looking around, until Olivia turned the corner and noticed a blanket hanging in the shade that read, “Will you marry me?” That’s when she realized what was happening. Tyler was down on one knee, holding the ring.
Olivia was surprised and immediately started smiling and tearing up. They were both emotional, and in the middle of it all Olivia jokingly said, “You know the ring is supposed to go on my left hand, right?” making them both laugh, helping calm their nerves.
Getting engaged at Afton Villa Gardens ended up being especially meaningful, as it also is where the couple was married a year later. What started as a casual afternoon visit turned into one of the most important moments of their lives.
In Preparation
When it came time to start planning the wedding, Olivia hesitated to get started. Taking on most of the planning herself felt overwhelming, and she knew it was going to be stressful.
Olivia looked at other venues with different pros and cons, but deep down she always knew there was nowhere more beautiful to her than her own hometown of St. Francisville. Olivia loved the idea of getting married there and having their guests experience the beauty of the area for themselves.
Afton Villa Gardens felt right from the beginning. Olivia’s only hesitation was the risk of rain, since there are no permanent structures on the grounds. Ultimately, she decided the risk was worth it. The gardens are too beautiful to compare to anywhere else, and Olivia trusted that the reward would outweigh the uncertainty.
Vendor selection was easily the most challenging part of planning. Olivia is very indecisive, and sorting through availability, style, and budget felt like a mountain to climb—and honestly, it was. Olivia doesn’t recommend planning a wedding more than once to any bride! That said, everything eventually fell into place, and some vendor matches truly felt meant to be.
One of those was the photographer, Hailey Tate of Hailey Madison Photography. Olivia was getting nervous after running into limited availability and delayed responses with other photographers, but Hailey responded promptly and immediately put her at ease. During their initial conversations, Olivia and Hailey realized they were both traveling from Louisiana to Destin, Florida that same week. It worked out perfectly, and Olivia and Tyler were able to take their engagement photos together on the beach in Destin.
Another detail Olivia cared deeply about was their wedding favors. She didn’t want anything that would be forgotten or thrown away. Through a family connection, Olivia decided edible favors were the best option. Dipped Louisiana was the perfect choice, creating chocolate-covered pretzels that were both beautiful and delicious, customized to their wedding colors and easy for guests to enjoy.
Looking back, Olivia says the preparation was challenging but incredibly rewarding.
The Big Day
As the wedding day got closer, Olivia became more nervous and stressed by the day. It felt like there were so many details to remember and so much pressure to make sure everything went perfectly. It wasn’t until the night of the rehearsal dinner that Olivia finally started to relax. She realized she had already put in the work, and at that point there was nothing more she could control. Olivia trusted that everything would fall into place—and it truly did.
That didn’t happen because of Olivia alone. So many family members and close family friends gave their time and effort to make their wedding weekend special. Olivia is especially grateful for their wedding coordinator, Denae Rhome. Throughout the day Olivia kept thinking, “How do brides do this without a coordinator?” Denae was there for everything, and Olivia trusted her completely to carry out her vision. Because of Denae, everything flowed smoothly, and Olivia was able to truly enjoy the day from start to finish.
Olivia loved spending the morning and afternoon getting ready with the women closest to her heart. Wildflower Hair and Makeup did an incredible job and made her feel listened to, comfortable, and confident. They got ready at Langhorn Farm, the Airbnb they rented for the weekend, which was the perfect setting—acres of natural beauty and a fun pool house where all the girls could gather. It also became the place Tyler and Olivia stayed after the wedding, which made it even more special.
Before walking down the aisle, Olivia was incredibly nervous. But once she saw how happy everyone was for them and realized who all had shown up to support them, that nervousness turned into pure joy. Olivia couldn’t stop smiling all day.
After the ceremony, Tyler and Olivia shared a private dinner together, which was exactly what they needed—a quiet moment to breathe, eat, and really take in the fact that they were married. The reception that followed was such a fun celebration. Everyone danced, laughed, and enjoyed the night. It truly felt like a party they didn’t want to end.
Of course, there were a few funny moments along the way. Right before the ceremony, Olivia was put in a bathroom alone to cool off and calm down, only to realize after about 20 minutes that it was almost time. When she tried to leave, the door was stuck. Olivia pushed her way out, only to nearly knock over her wedding coordinator who was on the other side coming to get her. Thankfully no one was hurt, but it gave everyone all a good laugh right before Olivia walked down the aisle.
Later that night, after their grand exit, Tyler and Olivia headed to check on their dogs before going to the Airbnb, completely phone-free. Meanwhile, everyone assumed they had gone straight to the Airbnb. When Tyler and Olivia weren’t there and couldn’t be reached, they were officially missing for about 30 minutes until Olivia realized her work phone was in her car. It was the perfect, unintentional end to a day that was full of joy, laughter, and memories they’ll never forget.
The Retreat
Tyler and Olivia decided early on to delay their honeymoon. After months of planning the wedding, Olivia knew she couldn’t handle taking on another big event right away, and she wanted their honeymoon to feel relaxed and meaningful—not rushed or stressful. Still, the couple knew they wanted time away together immediately after the wedding, just the two of them, to truly soak in those first days of marriage.
The newlyweds chose a quiet getaway and drove about eight hours to the quiet town of Jasper, Arkansas, in the Ozark Mountains. It turned out to be exactly what they needed. They stayed in a small Airbnb cabin tucked away in the woods that felt like it was designed just for them. It had a king‑size bed that they happily shared with their labradoodle, a hot tub, and a fire pit that almost convinced Olivia to stay in the entire trip.
While they loved slowing down and enjoying the cabin, Tyler and Olivia also spent a couple of days exploring the natural beauty of the area. They went hiking, took in the scenic mountain views, kayaked, tried local food spots, grilled steaks, and made s’mores by the fire in the evenings. Everything felt easy and unrushed. It was the perfect simple and peaceful getaway after the excitement of the wedding. Spending those first days as a married couple surrounded by nature, away from distractions, and with their dog by their side made it even more special. It gave Tyler and Olivia space to reflect, relax, and start their new chapter together.
Their next big to‑do is planning a real honeymoon, set for spring 2027. Tyler and Olivia are dreaming of something a little farther away—either relaxing in the Caribbean or traveling through Europe, with Italy or Greece at the top of their list.
