The Proposal
WaterSound on Florida’s State Road 30A has always been one of Peyton’s favorite places to relax and unwind, so Jay, Peyton’s high school sweetheart, knew it was the perfect place to propose. After spending a relaxing weekend with friends, Peyton and Jay welcomed Peyton’s family on Monday. On the night of the engagement, the couple got ready for dinner early so they could enjoy a drink on the beach and watch a band play. The seaside sunset illuminated their walk, Jay guiding Peyton towards the sand dunes, where a picnic basket complete with a blanket, champagne, flowers, and pillows were waiting. Completely surprised, Peyton turned around to see Jay on one knee! After the proposal, they celebrated with family and friends at Surfing Deer, one of Peyton’s favorite Watersound restaurants.
In Preparation
Peyton and Jay originally planned their ceremony to be held on April 25, 2020, but the pandemic forced them to change plans. Since the two had been together for over ten years, they decided to keep their original date but opted for a family-only ceremony to say their “I do’s”. Still wanting to celebrate with extended family and friends, they also scheduled a second ceremony with a reception on August 8, 2020 and put safety protocols like masks and individually-served dinner plates in place.
The Big Day
Peyton Conn and Jay Shell had their high school sweetheart wedding in Mississippi. Surrounded by family and dearest friends, the pair’s intimate April ceremony was filled with love and support. Jay cried when he saw Peyton in their first look, one of the sweetest moments of the whole day. Peyton wore a Monique Lhuillier ball gown featuring a chantilly lace bodice with a v-neck, long sleeves, and keyhole back. Her rose print silk organza skirt with chapel train was finished with a family heirloom cathedral lace veil. White furniture and tiered calla lily chandeliers created a modern design for their reception, where guests enjoyed signature drinks, decadent desserts, and savory hors d’oeuvres. A few of Peyton and Jay’s closest friends surprised them with a congratulatory, socially-distanced dinner to end the evening.
The Retreat
Sun, sand, and good company made Cabo San Lucas a honeymoon in paradise. The newlyweds relaxed poolside, sipped cocktails, and soaked in the warmth of the tropical sun and the sounds of the waves. One evening, they took a private sunset sailboat cruise with champagne, wine, and food, to the famous arch of Cabo San Lucas. About forty-five minutes into the sunset cruise, Peyton became seasick and had to lie down for the rest of the time! But Jay was so sweet about it and took the best care of her, a sign of the lifelong, committed fun-filled marriage that awaits them.
