Step into a timeless place where the quiet elegance of this stately antebellum-style home of one of the founding families of Memphis meld with the majestic beauty of this lakefront setting, with its grand magnolias and oaks gracing the spacious grounds along the banks of beautiful Horseshoe Lake, lined by the magnificent cypress trees in the water to create a perfectly serene and magical setting for your wedding and reception. Lovingly restored and updated by Martha McKay, granddaughter of the original residents of Snowden House, Robert Bogardus Snowden, Jr. (named after his grandfather, Colonel Robert Bogardus Snowden, who resided at Annesdale with his wife, Annie Overton Brinkley Snowden) and Grace Mountcastle Snowden, this lakefront mansion of the old-world style also offers overnight accommodations for you and your guests to provide the true “Snowden Experience” for your special event. Your hostess, Martha McKay, and her staff, is on site to provide all of the direction and assistance you may require to assure that your experience meets your highest expectations and that your stay is relaxing and fulfilling. Just 32 miles from downtown Memphis across the Mississippi River in the Arkansas Delta, Snowden House offers packages including round-trip shuttle service from Memphis.
For an outdoor wedding under the trees, with the natural sounds of birds chirping and the lapping of the lake, we can accommodate up to 400 guests on the spacious lawn with the historic Louisiana-style plantation home as a backdrop. The house itself offers gracious dining for up to 45 people for rehearsal dinner, bridal brunch or private parties. For an indoor ceremony and reception, the large and formal living room, with the Carrera marble fireplace and three-panel gilded mirror, both of which are heirlooms of the Snowden Family and came from the Memphis family home, Ashlar Hall (the home of the owner’s Great Grandparents, Brinkley and Sara Day Snowden) offers ample room for up to 125 people. The grand entrance hall with its crystal chandelier, pier mirror and marble bench (also heirlooms from Ashlar Hall), the black and white marble floor, fanlight, and sweeping staircase offers a spectacular setting for an indoor ceremony.
