The Proposal
Patrick proposed after a year of being deployed with the US Army. I knew it was coming, I just didn’t know when. One Friday I went out to meet a client that my mom and I were working with on a wedding. It was a set-up, when I got there, there was no client and instead there was Patrick on one knee. After I said the easiest “yes” of my life, we went inside for a party with our closest friends and loved ones to celebrate our new lives together. He had even organized for my best friend to drive 3 hours into town to witness the proposal and celebrate with us.
In Preparation
Both my mom and I are wedding planners, so I had a different planning experience than most. I knew exactly what needed to happen at certain times during the planning process. The most difficult part for me was coming up with an overall style that I hadn’t seen before at the many weddings I had been to. Picking out the perfect bridesmaids dresses and invitation suite took days and weeks of stress. By the time I finally made a decision, I thought my mom and sister were going to completely lose their minds. It’s so easy for me to make decisions for another bride’s big day because I can tell what her vision is instantly, but for myself it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I’m extremely happy with how everything came together.
The Big Day
The day of the wedding was so incredibly surreal, to this day it still feels like a dream. I spent the whole morning with my girls lounging, around the amazing bridal suite and drinking mimosas while being pampered. It doesn’t get much better than that. When it was time to put my dress on and start taking posed pictures, a huge hail storm came through and knocked the power out. Thankfully, there was so much going on and I had a wonderful team of family and friends around me that I didn’t have a chance to stress about it. Next thing I knew, I was walking down the aisle to my husband and had the best time celebrating with all of our family and friends. Queen Elizabeth‘s Corgi even made an appearance for the big day!
The Retreat
When Patrick and I were deciding where to go for our honeymoon, we figured it had to be a once in a lifetime trip. So we contacted our travel agent and booked our tour of Italy. We went to Rome, Florence, and Venice, ate some of the best food and drank amazing wine. Then before making our way back to the States we spent two days in London. The highlight of the trip was going to an audience with Pope Francis where he blessed our marriage and he even came around to talk to us and shake our hands. We had a great time and loved every second of it.
